I think a lot of people saw Thors’ death coming. The opening, ending and the story itself gives the viewer a lot of hints. So I’m sure you would have saw it coming, whether you heard his name a lot or not. The impressive thing is that most people saw it coming, and it was still incredibly heart breaking. A lot of people think that if you see a death coming, it won’t have as much emotional impact, but if it is done well, it doesn’t matter how telegraphed the death is.

I respect the fact that Thors kept his ideals of a true warrior and the reason why he deserted 15 years prior to begin with. He didn't want to kill anymore especially in front of Thorfinn, and could've easily killed everybody there. He's a better man than me cuz if I had his ability I wouldn't have sacrificed myself. And at the end of the day, this was all just a job to Askeladd, wasn't personal. You can see he respected Thors after it and I think Askeladd was serious when he asked Thors to lead them. Just played it off afterwards.

yep the storytelling (including the lead up to his death) is really well done. I like that they didn't over sell it. Not sure if that's the right way to put it, but I hope you understand

Im totally with you on this show not trying over dramatize or amp up emotional scenes more than it needs to. I love that about episode 4, There weren't trying to be shocking and they never feel the need to try too hard to convey the feeling or emotion that was intended.

Looks like Hanku (idk if I spell his name right) is still sleeping on the background since OP reaction lololol RIP Thors

yxcasual

Also the premise/summary on anilist spoils episode 4 so they probably never intended it to a shocking event or so (i think the anilist summary is official. not too sure but im assuming it is)

Oops my comment got deleted. That sucks since I checked it over first to see if there was anything wrong with it and thought it was fine but oh well. Whoever's monitoring these posts, the comment above me is the one you should be deleting. It's a full on spoiler. As the people replying to it are pointing out. Come on.

Yup askeladd was totally serious but after he seen refuse in Thor's eyes he made look himself weak in front of his people so he had to turn that into joke which is sad because he realy admired Thors

animaechan

I’m not sure what you are talking about as no one has modded the comments from the last 2 days

Doccyy, Patreon in himself delete sometimes Comments. I dont know why or what the cause is, but it happens very often for me. I Post something, Change the Comment 1 or 2 times and then After refreshing the side the Comment is gone.

Wow didn't know that. You'd think a little glitch like that wouldn't exist on a site as big as Patreon. Thanks for the heads up!

I knew you would love VLS. I don't know if you are planning on reading the manga or not, the studio decided to start the story differently from the manga, which wasn't a bad thing it was ok, but thats why it was obvious that Thors is going to be killed. Anyway great reaction I'm really happy you're not just reacting only to boring generic Shounens like other reactors are doing.

Felt like commenting this again since I just remembered what it was that I originally commented. This is just my interpretation of the scene and how I saw it so I'm in no way trying to pass this off as canon or the way you're supposed to see it. I think Askeladd was being genuine when he asked Thors to be their leader. He remained silent the entire time with a serious expression but you can see the look of disappointment and maybe even sadness on his face at 16:06 once he realizes that Thors would never accept his offer. So he then immediately plays it off as a joke to uphold his image as the leader infront of his men but even they seem confused when he does it and don't seem certain of whether he was joking or not. Even when his subordinate Bjorn jumps onto the ship and takes Thorfinn hostage he seems to look slightly uncomfortable/displeased with the situation since he never ordered him to do that. But at that point the situation is in his favor and he's not gonna give it up since he now knows there's no way of Thors becoming an ally. He's not gonna give up his life for nothing but he does seem slightly conflicted over killing a man like Thors. But at the end of the day it was what he was hired to do, so he does the job but there's nothing personal about it like being humiliated that he lost the duel or anything like that since he outright declares Thors as the winner as he gives the order for the archers to shoot him. Even as Thors is on the brink of death he swears to uphold his promise by swearing on his ancestor that he'd withdraw his troops immediately even though at that point he had no real reason to since Thors was no longer a threat. Anyways I'm giving a lot of reasoning for his actions here I don't wanna sound like some obssessive defender of a character who will justify everything they do, and won't tolerate any slander towards them. Askeladd is a pirate/viking who does a lot of evil things naturally, he's in no way what you could really call a good person but the little signs of respect he shows Thors throughout this episode, from what he says, to his internal monologues, he truly saw Thors as an incredible man worthy of respect. And idk I think just those little things were what gave me a little bit of appreciation for him rather than if he had just been a scumbag pirate to the core like some of the ones you see in One Piece I'd down right just hate him for killing Thors. Sorry about this long rant, I definitely worded this a lot better last time I did and got my point across in a lot less words, but I guess I'm just not as articulate today lol. Anyways can't wait to see your future reactions to this series and hope you continue to enjoy it!
