Scarlet Witch -- Exclusive 1/15/21 (early release) (Patreon)
Content
As promised, here is Scarlet Witch as this month's second Patreon Exclusive! I started this one pretty much immediately after I finished Poison Ivy, and I was able to blast through it pretty quickly, so you all get it a few days early.
This was a fun character to do, since this is the second time I tried my hand at her. Using the same character after quite some time really allows me to equalize things where I can really see how I've improved. I used to spend quite a bit of time using the pen tool in Photoshop to create vectors, both for lots of the lineart, as well as the shading layers. This allowed for some very sharp, crisp-looking cel-shading, but it took SO much time, and honestly, was not the direction I wanted my art to go, since I wanted to move toward something a bit more realistic when it came to colors and shading. I've pretty much abandoned the pen tool since, as I now use freehand for everything other than elements where the geometry is very important (jewelry like bracelets and toe rings are often done using the ellipse tool, since the feet are usually really close to the screen, and the focus of the piece).
I've tried to avoid using lineart in areas where I don't need it, instead opting for more subtle expressions of shape; for example, her corset has very subtle wrinkles in it, and while drawing those in with lineart would make for a very harsh line, and would suggest a very deep, folded-over wrinkle, using a soft brush and a darker shade better suggests a smoother, more gradual wrinkle in the fabric that just looks so much better.
I also did much better on the face, this time around. I'm always trying to improve on my likeness skills, since, as one very angry 4chan user once put it, the women I draw all suffer from "same face syndrome".
So, I hope you enjoy the piece and its variants! I can't wait to see what you guys vote for the Feburary 1st piece!
