Rey -- Patreon Exclusive December 2019 (Patreon)
Content
Here she is! Love her or hate her, Rey from the new Star Wars trilogy is instantly recognizable, and I've been wanting to do a piece of her for a while. I have a little list on my phone, with characters I want to draw, and she's been there for quite some time.
I started this piece late last month, trying to get a head start on the content for December, but of course I lagged behind, and I was only finishing this piece up yesterday. One of the problems I run into that really hurts my production time, is not really having a structured way of finishing the piece; I usually just add here and there until the piece is done. With this, I did everything in very distinct order: sketch, lineart, base colors, textures, shadows, lights, and then everything else. Completing the piece like this really helped me measure my progress a bit more, and I was able to move faster.
I settled on her Last Jedi costume rather quickly; I really liked the darker set of colors in it, especially since she looks rather washed out against the grey, ashy backdrop of Jakku. BB-8 adds a bit more life to the environment, which is something I like doing for these fanarts with more detailed backgrounds; I like it when there's small details that help frame the central character, but not in a distracting way. It just helps the piece feel more alive, and helps the central character look a little more casual, and less like she's posing in an empty room.
As always, you can find a bunch of foot-centric variants above (I decided to do black socks for a change). Please let me know what you think in the comments below! I'd love to hear from you!
