As much as I liked my original channel banner art, when I looked at it on the computer screen I thought, wow, Jill, that looks like you made it in MS Paint.

Which is not accurate, I made it in GIMP, but you take my point.

So Zach, who you may know as the one of the masterminds behind GeekVision, said hey, would you like some LIGHT EFFECTS?

And eight iterations later, this is what we got.

(Yes, I said eight. Luckily it was eight iterations in the space of about 45 minutes, so not too bad.)

The reason it's one lightbulb and one planet is because using two lightbulbs meant two light sources for the shadow effect which led to a file called MESSY GARBAGE. I didn't just want a regular drop shadow effect because it looked weird given there was supposed to be a light source, so we did one light source and one little planet icon.

I'm thinking the planet icon can be subbed out for other dot-type things as necessary, but I rather like it. Suggestions for alternative dots are welcome!

Note: this is not the channel banner (yet) as it is not the correct size. Or rather the file is the right size, but putting it on YouTube would mean the tops of the letters getting cut off, as they're a little too big and not quite in the YouTube template's safe area.

Oh yes, there is a channel art template. It has a safe area.

For now, though, here is a preview of the channel art, which will be going up very soon! When it is correctly sized! Yay!

I make awesome things in MS Paint. I make high art...fine, that isn't relevant, I like your logo.

I'm sure you do. I, however, make MS Paint drawings so bad, I legit think my toddler could do better. If only in an abstract art kinda way.

That's why you've got to start at MS Paint early, whilst you're wishing you are in high school art class wishing you're in high school computer class. And then you've got to keep at it for years and years, whenever you can't be bothered getting your real paints, and then you've got to have a break up and channel a lot of your emotion into MS Paint, and then maybe you'll be good at it... said no-one else ever.
