The problem with Newspeak is that it builds on the Sapir-Whorfe hypothesis, that language controls thought and that if you can't say it, you can't think it. We know that isn't true. Bit I agree that 1984 is a great novel (and it's interesting that one of the best horror novels in the English history is utterly devoid of anything supernatural).

Oh gosh Newspeak creeped me out as well as the government erasing your very existence and thoughtcrime. Aw man that book creeped me out. That and Animal Farm. Orwell had quite a few good things to say.
