Slime Girl Atroma (OC) (Patreon)
Content
This month's monster girl painting winner was to have me design an original slime girl. I was inspired by recently learning about Hydnellum peckii, an inedible (but surprisingly not poisonous!) fungus that secretes a red, jelly-like substance. Often referred to as bleeding tooth fungus, the jelly droplets are incredibly bitter, but have anticoagulant properties. The name "Atroma" was suggested by a patron, and is short for atromentin - the scientific name of the red droplets.
As the fruit bodies grow and the droplets appear, Atroma begins to materialize from multiple pores, eventually forming a body. Her hair doubles as her "brain", functioning similarly to the slime mold stemonitis fusca, giving her the ability to move independently and manipulate her shape at will. The antennae-like slime mold myxomycete act as scent detectors, helping discover the presence of nearby sources of food.
Despite being a single-celled organism with no nervous system, she is a living creature and is even capable of learning through habituation.
It was very fun to design this slime girl and I hope you like her! There are two more reward posts this month for all patrons so stay tuned.
