One of my favorite things to paint is clouds. So for my first resources post I thought I would share my cloud brushes and some photos of clouds I have taken!

The sketch above was done with only the cloud brushes that I am sharing! 7 brushes are included - 3 that were made with textures I found, 3 that I created from my own photos, and one that can be made with Photoshop's default "Soft Round", tailored for smooth, softened areas of clouds.

Attached to this post is the ABR Photoshop file containing the brushes.

How to install these brushes:

  • Download or move the .ABR file and move it to Photoshop's Brushes folder:
    • Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CSx\Presets\Brushes\
    • OSX: Applications/Adobe Photoshop CSx/Presets/Brushes/
  • Open Photoshop and select the Brush tool.
  • Expand the Brush presets panel so all your brushes are visible. This can be done by clicking the down arrow next to the brush selection in your options menu, going to View > Brush Presets, or right-clicking on the canvas.
  • In the Brush Presets popup, click the top right gear or corner and select Load Brushes.
  • When the Load Brushes dialog appears, go to the folder where you placed the .ABR file and then open that file.
  • The cloud brushes have now been appended to the end of your Brush Presets list. have fun!

To view my hand-picked cloud collection, please check out this dropbox folder.  Feel free to use them for reference!

If you have any questions about this resource please let me know. Have fun painting and I look forward to seeing your clouds!
