 I like to think that this is happening super early in Jesse and Hanzo's relationship, where Jesse treasures every tiny thing Hanzo does/tells him because those are BIG steps for the grumpy dragon. Jesse doesn't wanna push him or make him feel like they are in a rush, but when Hanzo, out of all people, says "I love you" first, Jesse looses it and drops everything to rush back home to say ILU2 personally... 

Yes.. yes, I am a big sap.. What is not shown tho, is Hanzo whooping Jesse's ass later, when the emotions get a lil more quiet, for " sabotaging the mission in favor of his emotions" :')
