I saw Hamilton live for the first time last year. Won tickets & got to sit front & center! I loved it! Wasn’t expecting such a hype way to have history told. Definitely worth going to see.

Anonymous

I was able to see hamilton when they were touring last year for my birthday and I must say - it is SO much better live imo The atmosphere of being in the theatre and hearing the music reverb off the walls at some points is just 🤌

koraa

scarlett jackett

i’m literally five minutes in and already regressing to middle school thank you so much for this

Lesetoiles

Why do I feel like this? 😂😹🤣🤣 Jonathan Groff that’s why! 🔥

In Satisfied, Angelica "rewinds" back in time to when she first met Hamilton and the choreography from the past two songs repeats, but from her perspective. It's genious

OH MY GOD SHUT UP YOURE JOKING I LOVE YOU TROY YOURE THE BEST I NEVER EXPECTED YOU TO EVER REACT TO HAMILTON OH MY GOD🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Anonymous

ahhhh i loved your reaction

Literally Natalie

LMM did indeed write this whole thing. His talent is.... unmatched in many ways. I know people hate on him but this is an incredible work of art. Thank you for your reaction!

Nicolett

I’ve always loved Hamilton but seeing it live was insane! Truly so many talented people in every aspect of this show. Also I got to notice so many other details that I didn’t see when I watched the film. Seeing it in a theatre was amazing cause it literally felt like I was SURROUNDED by everyone’s vocals I heard everything so well and picked up on so many harmonies I didn’t hear originally. Truly one of the best experiences of my life AND I CANT BELIEVE I FINALLY GET TO WATCH YOU WATCH IT ABHAHADKSNSKSN❣️

Anonymous

angela basset did the thing sighting!!!! (ariana debose)

Pc_ Cathy

The king is on stage for something like 12 minutes but 2000% steals the show!

Pc_ Cathy

Truly Jonathan Groff’s saliva should have won best supporting actor awards

Anonymous

AHHHHAAHHHH YESS

Hannah Lee

FUN FACT: King George is played by the ICONIC Jonathon Groff, AKA Kristoff from Frozen, and Holden Ford from Mindhunter

T

As good as you would think 🤌

Rachael H

I'm commenting as I'm watching so you may realize it later, but sounded confused about Room Where It Happens. Basically, Hamilton needs votes in Congress to OK his financial plan. In order to get Madison and Jefferson to help him get the votes, he allows the Capital of the United States to be moved from New York City (where it was after the revolution) to Virginia (or what will be Washington DC, where it is now) But the point of the song is that no one else was there to see the negotiations so we only have what Jefferson said about the meeting to know what happened. I hope that makes sense? And helps, lmao.

Pc_ Cathy

“10/10 wingwoman”…. Knowing what’s about to happen 😂🤨

Anonymous

you gotta hit sunday in the park with george and sweeney todd next 🙏

Mikayla McCord

ok but now you gotta check out daveed diggs (lafayette/jefferson) music since you liked his flow so much!! he is in a rap group called clipping. and honestly it's soooo good. anthony ramos (laurens/philip) has a solo career too and his full album released a couple years ago I think.

Hannah Lee

I salute Troy’s dedication to not giving money to The Mouse 🫡

Alice Varela

You should react to First Burn and Dear Theodosia (reprise) next ❤️ Also, I'm a huuge fan and know a bunch of fun facts abou it, would be happy to share

Anonymous

your reaction to king george has me in actual tears

Anonymous

Hello I’m back I’m so glad you liked it I was going to riot hehe

Jenna

Watching you geek over Hamilton has truly warmed my heart. It really is impressive the way he writes the history into the songs in these ways

eden

I am SO happy you liked it this musical is just so genius. I've seen it so many times and I cried with you lmao. All the little things about it are amazing. The ending of Reynold's Pamphlet piano being the exact piano that starts Burn is one of my favorite things. I love that you reacted strongly to Eliza's last gasp bc the meaning is unknown to the audience but you feel her emotion anyway I love ittttt. The meaning of that gasp is another favorite little bts detail I love. The best surprise video ever I loved this.

Anonymous

FUCKING YES

Anonymous

So much fun!! I loved your reaction!! There’s a song that got cut which was a crime called Congratulations, you can find it on YouTube. If you thought Angelica’s reaction to Hamilton’s affair was bad in this, that song is like a slap in his face lol. I hope you react to more musicals in the future!!!🎭

FayeWolf09

I’m so excited to watch this!! I’m not sure if you’ve ever seen it but I’d love an eventual reaction to the greatest showman, if it peaks your interest of course ❤️❤️

Anonymous

I’m so glad you loved it!! I was totally obsessed when I first heard the cast album in 2016 and then again when the proshot came out in 2020. I would really love if you could react to the Waitress proshot next. It’s one of my favorite musicals and I think you’d really enjoy it. It’s not quite as long lol

Wendi

Perfectly timed reaction!!! I’m seeing this live for the first time at the Fox theater in Atlanta in a couple of weeks and this just got me all excited for it (as if I wasn’t already) 😁 Hoping the cast is as good as the original was. They were all just so perfect for their roles. Watching someone experience the play for the first time is so special, so thank you for doing this!

Wendi

Thank you!!! May your pillow always be cold 🙏

Anonymous

thank GOD for this - also needed to share: "Angela Basset did the thing girl" is Ariana Debose put some respect on her name!! This og broadway cast is STACKED (King George being Jonathan Groff). Also needed to share Wait For It is NOT like Shape of You by Ed Sheeran because that song came out AFTER this (and is also, obviously, better). Anyways thank you Troy for forcing me to literally sob alongside with you while working this beautiful Friday afternoon <3

TiffK83

Rec: There’s a Hamilton mix tape that’s worth checking out. The Roots, jimmy Fallon, Kelly Clarkson, usher, and many more singers are on it. Definitely a good time! My goodness. It’s been months since I wanted Hamilton and it hit me like it was the first time. You did a great job catching so much of it. It’s so layered. It never gets old. If you ever get the chance to see it live, DO IT! There’s a lot going on going on all over the stage that you can’t see in the movie. Also definitely check into where all these actors are now. Some have done some great things since getting their “start” in Hamilton. Thanks Troy! It was fun!

Anonymous

I've seen Hamilton on tour twice! Once with my family and once with my school! It's incredible live.

Nashaly

this musical always gets me bro I cry every time

Jenna

Just for context about Angelica- Basically while Hamilton was married to Eliza, he had more in common with Angelica and they got along in a lot of intellectual ways. She was in love with him and he was sort of in love with her but also loved and cared for Eliza. Thematically, the way Hamilton and Burr are foils of each other, Angelica and Eliza are also foils. Both in part of his personal story and decision making

hthaze

Oh wow… that makes so much sense now. Thanks for the context!

Jenna

Also highly recommend listening to him sing in Spring Awakening, Troy

Anonymous

Honestly even better than the recorded version. There's so many things you pick up when watching the live version. It's incredible

Alice Longhorn

I've seen Hamilton 3 times in the West End and it's phenomenal every single time 🔥. Seeing it on tour in May too ❤️

Hannah Monks

just finished. mixtape time!

Aaliyah

I can’t believe this is happening 😂 Troy you finally caved! I saw Hamilton on west end Christmas 2018 and it was the greatest experience! My mum surprised me with tickets while we were over there, my first overseas trip as well!

Ashleigh

just finished the vid and im so glad you loved it. this is my comfort musical and im so happy i could watch it "with" you

Marissa Boyd

So excited to see this! Love Hamilton and saw it Live at the Orpheum in San Francisco. When I first went down the rabbit hole I was watching a series called Historian Reacts to Hamilton on YouTube - I forget the creator sadly but during The Room Where it Happened he mentioned that Thomas Jefferson was apparently obsessed with mac and cheese, so when he says “I arranged the menu, the venue, the seating” in the song I can’t help but think of them stuffing macaroni and cheese while making country altering decisions 😂

Boone_girl

NICE! I've yet to get take on this challenge of watching all of Hamilton. Mainly cus every time I go to watch it I'm alone and also prefer watching stage musicals (like this one) live before I see them on screen. I will be using your recording as my musical companion while I finally cross this one off my list as well. So THANK YOU!

Katrina Bradford

I love watching shows with you. Thank you!!

Allison

I've seen it live and it was absolutely incredible

Jade

There is life before you’ve seen Hamilton and life after it’s that kind of piece of art. Love this for you.

Anonymous

There are so many parallels between Hamilton and Miranda. It makes you realise how personal this project must be to him. They are both first generation Americans with roots in the West Indies, hailing from an island destroyed by a hurricane (Miranda from Puerto Rico, Hamilton from Saint Kitts and Nevis). They’ve made their careers using the pen. Writing like they’re running out of time. Just to show you how insane Miranda’s work ethic is: when Hamilton premiered in 2015, Miranda was playing 8 performances each week while simultaneously writing the music to Moana. When Hamilton premiered in 2015 Miranda had also just had his first child, a son, which is another parallel to him and Hamilton in the play. The more you read about the play, the more you realise how insanely detailed it is. I know I’ve shared this before, but if anybody wants to know more about the music, this is a good watch: https://youtu.be/Sq-M0GhIeDk?si=u17NuS2GPCb-qAhB

Anonymous

This was one of the last things that were invited to the White House under Obama administration, as like a preview and there is such a cool parallel in the presidential song being sung to the first black president. Also! The gasp at the end from what I got is Eliza breaking the 4th wall and seeing the audience and getting to know that she did enough and his story is being told, finally.

Trinity DeJesus

I forgot how much I loved Hamilton when it was on broadway and now I feel like I’ve opened a can of worms watching this for myself

Maggie Ruane

I love how much you loved King George I feel validated

Elle Potruch

You watching this without captions is like experiencing a musical in HARD MODE omg I’m so glad you loved this!! This was so fun to watch with you!!!

Anonymous

I highly recommend you read about hamilton a little on the world wide web and them watch it again you will notice you Lin adds to much detail to everything !!! I watched/listened to this everyday the entire summer it came out and it slaps even harder after watching it 100 times

Anonymous

this got me back in my hamilton phase...here we gooooo 🫡

Anonymous

you do not understand how happy this makes me as a theatre kid

tia jones

omg you have got to listen to the mixtape versions of these songs

Anonymous

i'm so glad you finally watched this and liked it! i have been obsessed with this play since i first heard the album in 2016. hamilton really changed broadway because it is completely fully accessible through its album. so, here's a fun fact: the only part that is missing from the actual broadway recording is laurens' death, which was an insane shock to people seeing it for the first times as a play or as this movie. otherwise you can literally listen to the entire musical and get the full story which is a total innovation for musicals.

Telewyre

please watch more movies for patreon! i loved watching eras and now this with your commentary/reaction!!!!

Anonymous

Loved this reaction you should check out the deleted songs!

Anonymous

Troy, thank you for sharing your reaction. Watching you enjoying Hamilton without all the context and hidden messages in the lyrics and stage really reminded me why I fell in love with this musical back in 2016 when we only had the OST and forbidden videos taken by the audience. I'm so glad you like it, it was a surprise seeing the notification, felt like a dream. As always, thank you for sharing your emotions through the play, it's always a pleasure. 💛

Anonymous

troy’s reaction to king george has made my day

Montserrat

Fleetwood Mac and daisy jones and the six reviews :(

Ryan Yates

Loved your reaction and I’ve seen Hamilton live as someone from the Uk in London amazing thank you 💕 I laughed and cried watching this

tia jones

i don’t know if you caught it but eliza told the general about the pregnancy a month prior and that’s why he was being protective trying to keep alexander alive but didn’t tell him why

Genevieve Wisdom

Ok so if you like this I HIGHLY recommend the movie of In The Heights, which was LMM’s first musical.

Genevieve Wisdom

Thank you for single handedly reigniting my Hamilton obsession king

Gaby

I was crying with you about Philip dying until you said "he was just standing on business" and then i cracked tf up LOLL

Anonymous

I don’t know if you notice, but Eliza is the only one throughout the entire musical that doesn’t rap because she is the only one who has “enough time.” She lives well beyond everyone else so she’s not “rushing” through her story throughout the play :)

Anonymous

I’ve seen it a million times and I still cried with him 😭

Pc_ Cathy

I FORGOT, EVERYONE NEEDS TO WATCH KATHERINE RYAN’S HAMILTON SKIT. Hilarious.

Caroline

I haven’t watched this in so long but I used to be obsessed so thank you for reminding me why. Was so cool to see you react and appreciate it! More musical reactions would be awesome! 🤠

Caroline

omg wait you should react to The Hamilton Mixtape which is famous people doing covers/their spin of these songs!

Anonymous

I need you to react to NFR by Lana rn🫡

Pc_ Cathy

Oooh watch them at the White House when they do One Last Time just as Obama is on his way out 💔💔💔

Tori Jeri

YESSS i love Hamilton and all things theater!

Anonymous

I love watching hamilton with people who have never seen it, cause their reaction to king george is priceless, and their reaction when i tell them he's the voice of kristoff in frozen is even better.

Tori Jeri

i’ve seen this live a few times and each time it was absolutely amazing. It’s crazy to see people be consistently good at singing, acting, and energy for 3 straight hours.

Meagan Bagley

Omg this made my day! I have seen it so many times and still notice things I never did before. If you watch it again use subtitles. Reading all the words makes a huge difference! It’s so cool to catch all the little details you don’t the first few times.

Bobhog

Omg right! Tell Eliza’s story. Her song in the end makes me cry every time. What she did!

Anonymous

genuinely so happy to see you react to burn and one last time knowing those are my favorite songs :") and dont worry i cried with you at the end. and in case you didn't know, people speculate at the end of the show when eliza gasps she is seeing the audience and realizing that his story DID get told. in case you want to cry some more like me

Sarah Hackman

This cast sang “one last time” at President Obama’s last Correspondent’s dinner. It’s sooooo good and makes me bawl every time. It’s on YouTube.

CuntyCorpse☠️

Can you watch legally blonde the broadway version next it’s my personal faves

Anonymous

Yoooo you gotta react to the rap that was cut from adam’s administration

Mallory

Wow I'm so glad you liked it Troy! That was like my 9th time watching I love it sm and I was so happy when I got the notif you reacted to it!! Keep it up 😁

Leah Maidment

I loved this so much. Thank you thank you thank you homie

Sarah Hackman

Kentucky still makes lawyers take an oath against dueling when we get barred 😂

Anonymous

I have seen Hamilton way too many times and I just watched it all again with you. First time watching "with" someone from the USA, love from Spain <3

Sarah Hackman

If no one told you yet, there’s a Hamilton mixtape, it’s excellent!!!

ren

the ending where eliza breaks the 4th wall and gasps always makes me EXPLODE in tears.

Anonymous

i think if you do another musical reaction you should watch come from away it has amazing music and tells an incredible story

Anonymous

Love this! FYI, Eliza’s gasp at the end is Hamilton, after death, breaking the 4th wall and showing her that there was a whole play and we know his story because of her! Lin says he named the show Hamilton, not just because of Alexander, but so that it includes Eliza!

Amanda M.

I thought my brain was gonna explode with delight when I saw this notification pop up! Hamilton wasn't really on my radar when it first hit Broadway, besides the standard hype that everyone heard, but when I casually put it on one night... I think I made it half through Aaron Burr, Sir before I shut it off and ran through the soundtrack/mix tape first so my un-medicated ADHD ass had a basic understanding of where it was going so I wasn't completely lost. I came out of the audio listen overwhelmed by Lin's impeccable storytelling, then watched the film, then ADHD-hyper fixated on Hamilton for a couple months afterwards. THANK YOU for allowing us to share Hamilton with you. I really like it around here 😊

Amanda M.

You make it that long?! "The orphanage" from the chorus gets me straight 😭😭😭 You have mad restraint!

ren

WHEN ELIZA WHISPERS "it's quiet uptown" FOR THE FIRST TIME.😭😭🙏

Ashley Little

Not how I was planning on spending my Friday night but sure was the best choice I could’ve made. Loved itttttt. Love seeing a Hamilton convert too. Not your typical musical. 💚

rubyornot2B

i have never used patreon but i saw this on twitter and immediately paid. this is revolutionary

Anonymous

gosh Troy, thank you so much for posting this! I’ve seen Hamilton live twice. It’s truly incredible, and seeing different actors take on the roles really made me appreciate it so much more. The choreography is not talked about enough. It is LACED with symbolism throughout the entire show (like the ensemble sitting down during Burr’s songs and standing/moving during Hamilton’s songs to symbolize their political tactics). Every time you watch this show, you notice something new or hear something new. It’s so incredible and I’m so glad you liked it! Ps: Angelica said “I’m looking for a mind at work” NOT “I’m looking for a minor to work” LMAOOO Pps: you should watch newsies on disney plus next. It’s a classic disney musical! or come from away!

Jenny Kelson

i have many thoughts about this reaction (mostly positive haha) but the one thing i kept coming back to was "i can't believe troy doesn't know jonathon groff" :')

Anonymous

You should listen to “first burn” it was the original song for Eliza but was cut. It shows her anger more

Anonymous

The best thing is that gasp at the end when Eliza’s passed and realizes the story is actually hers and her story is told.

Anonymous

you should listen to the hamilton mixtape!! it has early versions of a bunch of the songs recorded by a bunch of artists :)

Anonymous

AAAA I'm so glad you finally watched it and enjoyed it. I cannot explain the emotion of watching someone watch this for the first time.

Sarah Hackman

The circle from “I’m not throwing away my shot” at the very beginning to Hamilton literally throwing away his shot by shooting into the sky 😭😭

Anonymous

As a Swiftie and Hamilton superfan I was so excited to see this! Thank you for these great reactions.

Anonymous

Just watched Hamilton in Chicago and George Washington was AMAZING!

Sarah Hackman

There are SO MANY hip hop and r&b references. “The boy is mine” “I’m so into you” the ten crack/duel commandments “what’s your name” spelling his name like fabolous “I’m only 19 but my mind is old” mobb deep, “stressin…blessin” Beyoncé nod, “meet me outside” like there are literally SOO. MANY. Multiple per song, you can Google the full list.

Anonymous

I think how Hamilton was so adored, then suddenly cast away from social grace, may be my roman empire. I'm so glad you watched and enjoyed it, Troy!

Bluey308

Omg I always hoped you’d react to this!!

Anonymous

WE BEEN WAITIN FOR THIS ONE OH YEAHHHHH

Audrey

There's a Hamilton cover album, well-known artists are on it. 'It's Quiet Uptown' by Kelly Clarkson is very good.

ash212

honestly was not planning on rewatching hamilton but I always love your commentary! the emotions hit exactly the same the second (or third) time through and i’m violently sobbing :) super enjoyable 3 hours and if you ever want to watch another musical I highly rec legally blonde!

Victoria Bay

Thank you so much for this, Troy! Loved hearing all your reactions. Lin said that when he wrote the parts, he tried to write them like their personality… that’s why Hamilton raps so fast, because he always had so much to say. Thanks for sharing this with us, I knew you’d love it but I agree, sometimes it’s hard to get into stuff that has such a Stan culture around it!

Sydney Pabelico

You MUST watch the Helpless/Satisfied sequence again because Satisfied is just the entire Helpless scene in reverse. The spinning stage really adds to the effect and at the end of Satisfied time speeds up again and brings us back to the present. 🤯

Anonymous

king you literally HAVE to listen to the hamilton mixtape

Anonymous

Please react to First Burn! It's absolutely amazing! I'm pretty sure it was the first version of the song burn the Eliza signs but they had to change it because it drag Hamilton through the mud to much to be forgiven by Eliza.

Anonymous

King George is my favorite character in this as well! So much love for the one and only Groffsauce.

Lula Frey

"maybe i am his subject..." AND ME AS WELL

Anonymous

you need to react to “newsies” PLEASE

Anonymous

Gotta listen to the Hamilton mixtape it’s fantastic

you can take the kid out of the theatre... but you can never take the theatre out of the kid. i've been waiting for you to react to this for so long and seeing your first reactions makes me feel like im watching it again for the first time!!!

emma 🌷

love this! would be cool if you did movie or musical reactions every once in a while!

Ali

i would LOVE to see some musical reactions every now and then !! there's some uploads on youtube of some musicals like Six, Mean Girls, Heathers, etc. (just some popular examples)

Anonymous

I really want him to listen to the mixtape

Anonymous

Like you, I resisted watching it for a long time. But here I am sobbing with you as I watch it for like the 5th time. There's just something about it!

Anonymous

i am so so happy you did this. i never knew i needed this until now. you should watch how they made the song "wait for it" on netflix!

Catri Fox

I've watched this filmed version several times and have seen it on the west end in London and I WEEP every damn time. I was sobbing right along with you at the end there honestly 🥲 It's also one of those shows where the more you watch it the more details you notice. I'll never get over the Hamilton/Burr role reversal at the end; Burr always waits for it and Hamilton takes his shot but in that final moment Hamilton waited for it and Burr took his shot. Mental.

Anonymous

This was exactly what I needed omg you’re such an infectious creator, I can’t help but smile when you laugh

Anonymous

i would looooove if you reacted to legally blonde this was fantastic

Anonymous

the gif potential is phenomenal love the hard work you put in troy <3

Leann Cummings

You should react to First Burn, they recorded Lin’s first version of Burn and it’s sooooooo good

Anonymous

YESSSSS!!!! especially after seeing troy's reaction to say no to this, I think he would really enjoy Katherine Ryan's take on it...

Anonymous

The way we ran to Patreon to watch this after we saw your instastory 🙌 We absolutely love Hamilton and watched it a bunch of times and listen to the cast recording all the time! Your reactions are 👌🙌 You absolutely absolutely have to try Hadestown next! It's incredible as well! 🔥

troy this is my favorite thing ever!! when i saw you posted this i actually screamed

Anonymous

This was such a fun watch!! Hope you react to more musicals in the future!

Haley

all of the lore i absorbed in 2016 came back to me it's actually insane!! like eliza gasps at the end because she was wondering if anyone would remember hamilton's legacy and then she sees the crowd and knows that they did!! and lin wrote dear theodosia around the time his first kid was born about them!!

Anonymous

It gets me every time, there’s an interview where Lin says that every actor who plays Eliza can play that gasp to their own interpretation from the story being hers to the idea at the end it’s Lin showing Eliza the audience watching her and Alexander’s story, or just Eliza meeting Alexander again in heaven

I LOVED watching you react to this!!! I’ve seen it live and nothing compares! LMM was a genius for this FR

Anonymous

There are lots of theories on why Eliza gasps at the end but my favorite is because she realizes Hamilton’s story did get told! It makes me emotional!

Raini Remley

loved seeing your reactions! also i am begging you to listen to clipping. daveed diggs is insane.

Lenore Shields

Fun fact: in real life Aaron Burr said he did not regret what happened to Hamilton and said that Hamilton got what he deserved. You should react to the remix version and In The Heights also by Lin

Auburn

the jonathan groff love troy was handing out gave me so much joy. He was my first broadway crush. I have followed his career since spring awakening and you going nuts for the king was so awesome. The charisma that man holds is incredible, haha

Jamie Klinger

After Satisfied: “So he didn’t cheat, then. Good.” Me: 😅🫥

Anonymous

The orphanage line in the last song gets me every.single.time. if I'm not already crying by then I will be soon.

Auburn

I can get through the entire musical without crying until their harmonize on "the orphanage" then I'm a gonner

Auburn

wonder if this means you'd be interested in reacting to Lin's other movie musical, In the Heights 👀

emma crowe

“he was just standing on business” 😭😭😭😭😭

Erin PJC

I haven’t finished watching but incase you still don’t understand the comma issue with Angelica and “one stroke and you’ve consumed my waking days”; His letter changed from the usual “My dearest Angelica, “ To “My dearest, Angelica”

Ally ❤️

The album that the Roots put together set her of covers of the songs - Kelly Clarkson sings It’s Quiet Uptown… there’s a video on YouTube. It’s insanely good! Highly recommend.

Ally ❤️

Pulitzer Prize winning musical!! No hype- the best theatre experience since Les Mis!!

Ally ❤️

I am always gutted by the end. I feel like Eliza sees the impact that she and Alexander had… and that she sees the audience learning all about his story!

Biancka

pls react to First Burn!! it's on youtube and its with different actresses who all played eliza!

Anonymous

i always interpreted the ending as Eliza breaking the fourth wall and seeing all the people that came to hear their stories, and it breaks me every single time.

Anonymous

I saw this on Broadway in summer of 2017, and I was glued the entire time. I was all the way in the last row on the top section of the balcony and had the best time ever, there is not a bad seat in this show! It’s actually awesome being up there so you can watch the turntable built into the stage operate and the blocking from such a cool angle. One of the loudest broadway shows I’ve ever been too too😂 if they ever release a pro shoot of Hadestown, I would highly recommend you react to that show if you’re interested in reacting to more musicals!! The music is right up your alley and the story is phenomenal!

Anonymous

Also! Satisfied is Helpless all over again, but from Angelica’s point of view. There’s probably a video somewhere lining them up to show how they tell the same story twice; Helpless from Eliza’s POV and the Satisfied from Angelica’s, but how despite meeting A. Ham first and being on the same level as him intellectually, she relents because she loves her sister more and wants Eliza to be happy. The choreo is insane how it lines up!!

Anonymous

You really should react to First Burn!!! It was Lin Manuel Mirandas other song for Eliza after the Reynolds Pamphlet. Sooooo good....so much female rage. 5/5 song for sure!!!!

Alyssa

thank u so much for reacting to this!!! hamilton is one of my favorite things i've ever listened to/seen in my life; i was such a theater kid growing up but this one is special.

Anonymous

Soooo glad you enjoyed this!!! You MUST listen to First Burn (all the Eliza actresses sing it together) and Congratulations, which was a cut Angelica song that should have stayed. It’s so freakin GOOD.

Anonymous

This is the greatest thing you've ever done

rubyornot2B

the way he happened to look away RIGHT AS burr did the tablecloth trick in room where it happens... devastation

sydbee

God but like. At the end, it's not just Hamilton who leads her to the edge of the stage, it's also Lin-Manuel Miranda who wrote this entire thing and IS the one telling her story. So when she looks out at the audience, it's LIN showing Eliza her story being told in this incredible fourth wall break.

AB Young

"He was standing on business" while sobbing was the funniest thing you've done

Ashlyn

Hairspray next!!!

Kidderkat

The WILDEST part of the actual "Reynolds Pamphlet" (which I read out of curiosity and HOO BOY) is that he basically went on for ten paragraphs saying "they're only hatin bc I'm popular" and "Eliza will be understanding bc I'm clearing my name." I'm glad she got to do what she wanted to with her time bc she deserved MUCH better than A Ham. Another fun fact (I'm not a history buff I promise LOL) the last wife he had divorced him and the day the divorced was finalized, Burr died later that night. His final wife's divorce lawyer was Alexander Hamilton, Jr.

Erin PJC

Okay but Burr saying “those who run their mouths off wind up dead” and Laurens having the next line and then being the first of their group to die

Abby

I could have never predicted this video and I’ve never been happier on a Monday THANK YOU this was wonderful and now I’m humbly asking you to react to The Greatest Showman if you haven’t seen it , but seriously this was so fun

Anonymous

“is that … who i think it is?” idk her name, but it’s the ‘🎶angela bassett did the thing🎶”

This was so great. I laughed, I cried. I had seen it before but it was fun seeing it through new eyes! Glad you liked it.

Daveed Diggs, who played Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, is a rapper/singer/songwriter! You should check out some of his solo stuff. He is also in a group called clipping. that is worth checking out.

Anonymous

Omg this was SOOO fun to rewatch with you. I'm obsessed. I hope you do eventually get into your Dylan Is In Trouble era or at least musical era 🙏

I was lucky enough to see one of the OG cast show and i cried my eyes out. I would recommend to anyone if you can see it, do it.

YO you gotta listen to the (fake) MUPPETS version. This voice actor reimagined the whole damn thing when he was bored at the beginning of Covid. It's on Youtube and I listen to it more than the real Hamilton Soundtrack now xD

Kristy

LETS GOOOO

Samantha Hercules

You MUST watch First Burn! It is how Burn was originally written (with way more anger and spite) and it’s performed by many of the broadway Elizas. You will LOVE it!

ASMRgirl2468

As a theatre kid myself, i would LIVE for you watching more musicals with us!! this was so good, loved seeing your reactions

I saw the last show on Broadway before COVID shut down!! I will forever be traumatized by the second half of this show 😭😭 the lights came up and I was just sitting there CRYING. also cried right along with ya

Anonymous

I lost it at “He was standing in business” 😭

Anonymous

I actually got really close with one of the dancers from the og cast. He was amazing and took me under his wing! I remember being in such AWE when I finally watched the show in disney+

hayley v

if we"re watching musicals you should look into rent. theres a regular film and also broadway one on youtube

hayley v

if you`re watching musicals you should check out rent. theres a film version and a broadway film. the broadway film has the actress who plays Angelica as one of the lead roles

joined the patreon just to watch this video and it was well worth it

This is the most beautiful new years present 💓 I’m having a hard time and this is a really cool thing cause I love Hamilton ✨

Tara Cabache

Adding to the million other comments, you should listen to First Burn. It's so so good! Also, it was making me crack up when you managed to completely miss the "Mr. Jefferson's coming home" repeated a million times and said Lafayette was back from France 😂

Anonymous

Hamilton is by far the best musical of all time.

Anonymous

you have to react to the stuff that was cut from this it’s so good 😭

Anonymous

this was amazing! i’d encourage u to look up some of the most important hidden details about the show, but here’s one that blew my mind and made me want to rewatch immediately: The Bullet (or Death), played by Ariana DeBose, missed Hamilton twice and was held back by the ensemble all throughout the show until Hamilton is giving the monologue in the duel with Burr, then she's held back no longer and finally hits him, causing him to die. Throughout the show she touches the character that is about to die. In Phillips song (Blow Us All Away), he *literally* flirts with death.

Anonymous

I watched the German version live (I know - I thought the same thing) But it was actually amazing! Even more Powerful and very emotional - even the german audience couldn't contain itself.

Anonymous

I’ve seen this musical live and on disney+ so so so many times and without fail, I cry EVERY TIME.

Katherine Martin

I've been a fan of Hamilton since it came out on Disney+. I'm from Canada (Quebec, hehehehe) so I don't know a lot about US history. I knew the basics but this play helped me learned A TONS about American history. It made me want to learn more about it and hearing Lin-Manuel talk about how he got inspired and that he wanted young people to learn history in another way, I think it's awesome. I don't know if it's true, but i've heard they gave money to the orphanage that Elisa opened (yes it still exist to this day) and that Lin gave tickets to classrooms so that they can learn history in a fun way. I think you need to watch all the little details about this show by yourself, it's amazing and you learn a lot more. I never thought I would see you react to Hamilton but I'm happy you did it, it was fun and I was crying and laughing with you.

Katherine Martin

I was laughing, I was like "they just said like 30 times "Thomas Jefferson's coming hooooome"" and he was like " HEY LAFAYETTE IS BACK" 😂😂😂

Anonymous

Yes, Troy. That is "Angela Bassett did the thing" (Ariana DeBose I love you forever)

Erin PJC

“He’ll do the same if he’s truly a man of honor” He was in fact not a man of honor, he shot Philip on 7. Philip thought he must’ve counted wrong… ”I’m sorry for forgetting what you taught me” Cut back to Eliza and Philip playing piano and counting together

Erin PJC

If I remember correctly (from my hyperfixation a few years ago) in Its Quiet Uptown, that shaky breath from Philippa (Eliza) and Lins concerned look were very real. Philippa had lost a relative recently. I think I read somewhere she got the news before they filmed it? I can’t even imagine

Kaela Shafer

Loved this! I had a super shitty night and this made me feel better by laughing with you and also i got to cry which i needed to do lmao. would love more of this type of long-form reaction content. :)

Anonymous

At the end, you said that they should tell Eliza's story. That is why the musical is called Hamilton, and not Alexander Hamilton. The first half of the musical is telling Alex's story, but the second half is showing the rest of the Hamilton family's story. We see Philip's life from start to end, we see Eliza fall apart and put herself back together over and over again in the second half. It really is incredible.

Mara

“Damn, it’s getting dark so let me spell out my name. I am the A-L-E-X-A-N-D-E-R. We are meant to be a colony that runs independently” “What did he spell?”

Mara

If you’re looking for more musicals to watch I would actually highly recommend Shrek!

Mara

Heads up if you use OBS, Firefox doesn’t black out streaming services like other browsers.

Mara

Jonathan Groff being King George III here and Kristoff in Frozen never ceases to amaze me.

Mara

And the fact he only has like 9 minutes on stage but absolutely steals the show and has by far the most intricate costume lol

Mara

And in an interview Jonathan said during his first exit heading upstage when he is facing Hamilton who is coming downstage, he would always make funny faces or noises to try and make Lin break character.

Kayla

the way i saw your tiktok and RAN here! i love hamilton so much!!

I’m so mad you said Wait For It is Shape of You. You’re so right. And I hate Ed Sheeran 🥲

The Gamer's Club

PLEASE REACT TO THE RENT MUSICAL IM BEGGING YOU PLEASE

Anonymous

There’s so many fun facts about the show and not so fun facts about the history behind it that make it so much more tragic. But my favourite is the gasp at the end, obviously it’s up for interpretation but I see it as Eliza seeing their life’s work and the legacy they’ve left behind. It’s not Hamilton leading her up to the audience, it’s Lin. Alexander is important but Eliza even more so. There’s so much more so I do highly recommend just geeking out on it because there are just so many hidden intricacies that you miss out on. The devil is in the details and they smashed it out of the ballpark.

Anonymous

IM SO SAD YOU DIDNT WATCH IT STRAIGHT THROUGH IT HITS DIFFERENT

Meredith

If you wanna watch more broadway you should watch the newsies pro shot

Mara

You looked away at the exact ,one t the tablecloth was ripped out from under Burr in room where it happens 😭

Mara

The piano line that ends “That Would Be Enough” is the same as the one that starts “It’s Quiet Uptown”, tying together the beginning and end of Phillip’s life.

This was so enjoyable - it felt like I was showing a friend one of my favourite musicals. Thanks for letting me spend the night. By the way...I HIGHLY recommend that you check out the cast performing One Last Time at the White House for Obama during his last term. That song already hit pretty hard but it REALLY hits now.

Anonymous

seeing it live (preformed by the touring cast) was genuinely life changing. As a theater kid who grew up praising this entire musical (not one of THOSE Hamilton kids but yk) it was amazing to see the fixation come to life.

Hannah Powell

exposing my own past hamilton knowledge, dear theodosia is actually about his dog! it was written before his son was born!

You should listen to the Hamilton Mixtape! And First Burn, and OF COURSE the Hamilton Polka by Weird Al

Jonathan Groff (baby girl king George) does a lie detector test with Vanity Fair where he, hilariously, explains why he has so much saliva when singing. You NEED to watch it

More reactions to musicals please!!! Tick Tick Boom, The Last Five Years(Jeremy Jordan is god), and so many more!

This reaction is incredible except for the fact that you looked away at 1:58 when the tablecloth gets pulled out. It's a one second moment and iconiccc choreography.

My fav parts were definitely: 1. When Jefferson comes out for the first time and you’re so confused where his accent went 🤣 2. In Room where it happens where you’re literally like ‘gotta be honest im barely following what’s going on So fun never change lol

Anonymous

Theatre kids 🚨🚨 we need to find him In The Heights!!!

Anonymous

Soooo good. Also the context of when this was popular is so important! During the election, it really fueled a lot of people's fires. Side note- you should definitely listen to the remixed album. The song during the credits is on it.

lila

i’m going to need you listen to the songs that were only in the off broadway version and first burn because jesus you’d LOVE first burn

Loved this!!! Can you please react to the musical Nerdy Prudes Must Die by Starkid??? It’s on YouTube and it’s amazing, you’d definitely like it!!!

We need to bully troy into listening to Hadestown!!!!!!

This show will always have a special place in my heart because my mom bought us tickets to go see it for my birthday after I raved for it for 4 years (she was never a musical person) and it was one of the last things I did with her before she passed. She told me she understood completely why I adored it so much after we left the theater that day, it was so fun watching you react to it!!

nat 💌

i saw hamilton live a month ago and it was INSANE. i cried 4 times it's incredible.

Anonymous

I was lucky enough to see it with original cast in February 2016- (before the prices were outrageous) absolutely incredible!

Alexia French

I think I watched every reaction to this online so thank you for reacting!!! I was so worried for you once I realized how hard Act 2 was going to hit you. if you still up for the Hamilton train, react to “First Burn” which is a version of Burn but with all the actresses that had played Eliza over the years on broadway. Very incredible. Or for something fun, Lin Manuel and the cast did perform a few songs from Hamilton at the White House for president Obama including my favorite “one last time”. And finally you can always go through and listen to the Hamilton Mixtape which played one of the songs at the end of Hamilton during the credits. Thank you so much for taking your time and energy to react because it’s ALOT. But soooo worth it❤️

Amanpreet Kaur

Troy being attracted to Jonathan Groff's spit in Hamilton was not on my 2024 bingo card

Destanie Mills

I watched Hamilton live! It was showing in Lubbock TX like a couple weeks ago I think. The show was amazing all of the cast did amazing. They did outstanding and now when I listen to the songs the play is in my mind. But yeah it was amazing.

Anonymous

don’t know if this is actually true but i read somewhere that the musical was named hamilton rather than alexander hamilton cause the whole point is to highlight eliza and all that she did to upkeep the hamilton legacy :’) so in a way it’s really eliza hamilton’s musical and at the end when she gasps, she’s finally seeing the limelight and getting the credit she deserves

kate b

honestly just curious how troy would analyze the ending- with the idea of eliza having written the whole thing and the gasp being her seeing the audience and realizing that people heard her tell his story

Erin

Hamilton still makes me cry after all of these years. Thanks for letting me revisit it with you, Troy!

Anonymous

Im so glad you liked it!!! It was a joy watching you watch the musical. I sang along with every word and truly enjoyed hearing what you thought of the music and story. Thanks for posting!

Amazing reaction. I absolutely love Hamilton! Please watch "Tick, Tick... Boom" as well - Lin-Manuel Mirandas directorial debut and it's FANTASTIC!!! With Andrew Garfield as the lead.

I just saw Hamilton in West End in London yesterday, I bought the tickets Last week and when you posted this I took it as a sign. It was one of the most amazing plays I have seen in my life. I have seen the movie like 3 times in Disney plus I know all the lyrics but seen it live man it was something from another planet. Really happy you liked it also.

Anonymous

I have seen this play countless times, it still gives me full body chills and tears and laughter and happiness each time I watch. It never goes away. I am forever mind blown how Lin Manuel Miranda wrote this entire play himself. Insane that it came from one mind.

Troy being completely oblivious during What'd I Miss with the "Thomas Jefferson's coming home" and "Thomas Jefferson welcome home" and then saying "wait is that not Lafayette?" is so funny to me. Easy mistake to make because yes it's the same guy but that's why they introduce him multiple times! lol

Anonymous

Absolutely loved watching your reaction! Also I would die if Troy ever reacted to the Moulin Rouge Broadway soundtrack, I feel like he’d love all the mashups and music references

Anonymous

I'm so happy you enjoyed it! Hamilton was what introduced me into musicals, and now I am a forever musical fan but Hamilton always has a special place in my heart because of that, and because it is truly a masterpiece.

Anonymous

Please please please listen to the Hamilton mix tapes and First burn. They are absolutely incredible. Also, not Aaron Burr saying "this man will not make an orphan of my daughter" when his daughter is a full grown adult and married while Hamilton still had young children and Eliza was pregnant at the time

Gemma Brogan

I highly highly recommend watching more than once, and also with subtitles! I've seen it so many times and I swear every time I catch something new (like some new reference to a previous song, or an ensemble member doing something symbolic), and I find that the subtitles make it easier to follow the story since they sing so fast. I've also seen it live twice and I can confirm it's incredible, ESPECIALLY the ensemble scene in the Battle of Yorktown. Shit slaps.

Nova Amore

Do you think you'll react to greatest showman?? 🤔 It would be cool to see what your reactions are to the songs!

Korinna Garcia

I got to see Hamilton live in 2021 and it was absolutely incredible!! I highly recommend seeing it live if you ever get the chance. It really made me fall in love with theater and appreciate the beauty of it

Tia Hopkins

You should listen to the Hamilton Mixtape. It’s really good!

Ida Rafn

I have never been as moved by an actor as i am by Phillipa Soo as Eliza,, just fucking heartbreak every time :’)

Josie Hansen

If you like Daveed Diggs voice (LaFayette / Jefferson) you should listen to his rap group clipping.! His flow is literally insane

Mia Mar

You did this for me I’m convinced

Derlis Aguilera

tik tik boom is amazing, music written by lin manuel miranda too also in the heights, it was his first musical just great stuff

Anonymous

Tik tik boom was not written by lin manuel miranda at all; just directed by him. All music and lyrics were by jonathan larson

Carly Hanson

I will say in this narrative Hamilton never disliked Burr, but he didn't approve of Burr standing for nothing, while at least Thomas Jefferson stood for something. The Burr/Hamilton foil dynamic of the musical is so interesting, and the more you watch/listen, you'll uncover more layers. Anyway, totally loved this reaction, thanks for doing it! Hope to see more!

carolina florez

I so obsessed with this play, 2024 and I’m still watched it like it’s the first time. Really really loved that you give it a chance, also, I joined to Patreon the minute I discovered that you have done this reaction (and the eras tour obviously). It will be amazing if you react to First burn and Immigrants

Alyssa R

I need you to listen to First Burn on spotify because I will forever be upset that Eliza’s feminine rage didn’t make it into the musical

Anonymous

It’s so funny watching you realize it’s literally just about Alexander being incapable of shutting the fuck up and keeping it in his pants & also a sitting vice president killing a man 😂

Anonymous

So I watched this for the first time right along with you and I AM NOT OKAY. The talent is absolutely insane. And I hated history so for me to love it as much as did is crazy. Also kinda crazy that Kristoff from Frozen is the sassy king 😂😂

Anonymous

He was just standing on business 🥺😭 I’m crying with you lmao

Anonymous

Also.. you need to read on the meaning of the gasp Eliza did at the end. It ties everything together 🫶🏻

nate

great reaction!! just wanted to pop in and say that lin manuel miranda did a wonderful job at glorifying what was actually a grisly and violent start to our nation. a lot of the history in this is simplified, and a lot of it is creative liberty as well. we musn't forget the countless native americans and african americans who suffered so that we might be free.

Phey mae

Jonathan Groff went off as the king I love that man. I was so deeply obsessed with this shit back in high school and I'm not even a theatre kid lmao, I cry every time without fail

Faith B

I'm so happy you cried during "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story"!!!! That song always gets tears going for me especially when Eliza starts talking about the orphanage and how the kids remind her of Alexander. <3 Love ya!

Faith B

( / means played by same person) also when you rewatch it it's amazing because lights shine on certain people in "Alexander Hamilton" (the opener) depending on the line. Lafayette/Jefferson and Hercules Mulligan/James Madison sing "We fought with him" symbolizing Lafayette and Mulligan fighting side by side with Hamilton and Jefferson and Madison fighting with Hamilton over politic stuff. Then Laurens/Phillip Hamilton sings "Me? I died for him" signifying how Laurens died in battle winning the war and Phillip dying due to the duel against Whats-His-Name who dragged Hamilton. "Me? I trusted him" is sung by Washington and "Me? I loved him" is sung by Eliza, Angelica, and Maria Reynolds (who also played Peggy) who all did love him (in more ways than one *side eye*)

Arvin mendoza

“Hell yeah feminism”

Anonymous

Bro I was hoping someone would bring it up. I haven’t watched it again since I learned about the stage notes and it’s meaning and fuck if I didn’t fully bawl.

Aisling

Eliza’s gasp at the end has two main interpretations. The first being her crossing over to the other side and seeing her friends and family again. The second more popular interpretation is that the fourth wall is breaking and she gasps at seeing the audience, at seeing that all her hard work paid off because here everyone is hearing about their story. The story of BOTH Hamiltons

Ashley

LOVED this, laughed and cried with you and forgot how damn good this show is.

Omg yes would love a tick tick boom reaction on this channel

I watched Hamilton live a long time ago and god was I just blown away!!! I'm a major theater nerd and I've watched many musicals, but I have to say that Hamilton is simply the best. Wether it's the new or the old cast, they all just pull off this masterpiece so well! One of my favorite things is Eliza gasping at the end, so beautiful and symbolic!!! Love this!!!

The first watch thru is great, but it gets better the second time because you catch so much more!

Kelsi Krandel

I may or may not have subscribed to your patreon for the month just to watch Hamilton "with" you and see you experience it for the first time. I'm so glad you loved it - I cry like you did every single time I see it, doesn't matter how long it's been. If you're curious, there are a ton of cut and inspired songs. There's a Youtube video of Lin performing a cut rap roasting John Adams that's my personal favorite. Also, as a dancer, the choreography in this is SO masterful. If you watch again ever, look at the A Winter's Ball/Helpless/Satisfied choreography sequence again. When they rewind in Satisifed, it's the EXACT same staging, EXACT same choreography, EXACT same everything. They really just replayed the entire scene down to the dancing, meaning they created choreography that had to work for THREE extremely different songs and tempos. Everyone who worked on Hamilton is a genius - look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now to experience such masterful and important pieces of art like this.

Anonymous

Ok but I really need yall to know about the gay love letters between Hamilton and Laurens. They were a complete total thing.

carly powell

If you want to know more about Eliza Hamilton, there is a book called "Eliza Hamilton: wife of Alexander Hamilton". She was an amazing woman. Hamilton wrote his last letter to Eliza telling her she was "Best of Wives, Best of Women".

I saw it on broadway and on tour, both times were absolutely incredible. It’s crazy to hear them sing like that in person, the chills I got were crazy and the staging is so cool

Noah

Seeing Hamilton live is craaaaazy - it’s really great seeing other people play these characters and see their different interpretation of some moments

Kiera Banks

Troy you need to watch the Spring Awakening Documentary on how it started etc. it’s wonderful

Anonymous

I've seen the recoding and listen to the soundtrack so many times that i actually think I could do it in my sleep😅welcome to the club, nothing will ever be the same (see what i did there?)😂

daisykinnett

i bought patreon strictly to watch this

Gemma

Troy, you have picked up things in this show for the first time watching than I have in the seven years of living and BREATHING of this musical. I saw it in London, and I'm seeing it again in Edinburgh; I am undoubtedly satisfied (hehe ;)) with your reaction! Please react to more musicals!!!!

Anonymous

You should really watch the Hamiltons America documentary on pbs ! I can send you a link!

Anonymous

So at the end, when Lin takes Eliza’s hand he is actually playing himself and he is walking her to the fourth wall which breaks and her final gasp is her seeing the audience and realizing their story did get told

daisykinnett

Troy u should take ur wife to go see Hamilton they are on tour rn

Anonymous

I'm seeing it live for the first time on Sunday at The Fox in Atlanta, its running for the next month in Atlanta Troy....

Robyn Stening

Sitting here crying at like 2 AM with Troy when I’ve watched/seen Hamilton like 30 times

Anonymous

PLEASE LISTEN TO CONGRATULATIONS

Kayla 💜

*crying* "he was just standing on business." FOR REAL😭😭😭

Aninha Silva

you should definitly watch Tick Tick boom! my guy, won't regret it

Elizabeth Gatewood

Hi the king is the voice of Kristoff in frozen love you bye

Anonymous

My mind was literally blown during the “rewind” moment seeing live. It’s hard to catch watching this version first. Such a great watch together,

Anonymous

yes i subscribed only to watch his reaction but also this is my 10th time watching it (i first watched it about three weeks ago) and i love how every time i do i catch something i hadn’t noticed before!! like madison crying after it’s quiet uptown ends 😭

Bolivia Borris

you should definitely listen to the hamilton mixtape whenever u have a chance :)

Anonymous

LOVED this. This video is the only way I’m watching Hamilton from now on, Keep up the amazing content!

Anonymous

The way I also got patron and subscribed just to watch this video🤣 I loved it 💯💯❤️

Anonymous

Never expected to be sobbing about Phillip dying and then Troy hits me with the “he was standing on business” lmaoo

Anonymous

There's so many videos about why certain notes were chosen, why the motifs show up, etc. You seem to have a fascination with the music aspect so I highly recommend watching those videos

Anonymous

this is my favourite musical ever, and the reasons are clear. also thomas jefferson is a big slay

Anonymous

Listen if you want a good movie website use moviecracker.net

Anonymous

The Waitress screen capture is out. For the love of god, watch it.

Anonymous

Troy I am begging you to look up helpless / satisfied the YouTube video where they’re played at the same time. They’re occurring at the same time same choreography and everything it’s fascinating. Someone put them together already!

Anonymous

I’m shocked Troy hasn’t noticed all of the nods to classic rap like not one has he recognized as far as I can tell

s

loved this reaction and seeing someone react to it without knowing details is fun 😆 i saw hamilton live a couple of months ago and didnt cry but i somehow did while watching with you. who lives who dies who tells your story is just that song

Alice Longhorn

The irony of Troy saying no womanly distractions just before Hamilton's affair 💀

Anonymous

WAITRESS OMG. I will bully you to the ends of the earth because Sara Bareilles is a literal angel.

Anonymous

I think this is my 6th time watching this musical, I never get tired of it, Lin Manuel is a genius!

Anonymous

This musical has like 144 words per minute… next time I’d recommend captions!! 😂 loved the reaction. Lin is a meme to me now, but I respect the genius of this musical. The World Was Wide Enough gets me every time. Leslie Odom Jr. is KING

Anonymous

dear Evan Hansen!

Anonymous

Eliza’s face at 2:23:58 is so heartbreaking!! 😭 You can see both the suffering and the plea for compassion in her facial expression. Phillipa made it clear in her role that Eliza is the heart and soul of this story! The one who cries for her the most is Lin Manuel himself 😂

Anonymous

you should do waitress next!! the cinema release is finally available online and it is WONDERFUL (and i can think of multiple songs/scenes that i know you'll LOVE)

Anonymous

*dries his eyes after burn* me: oh don’t bother

Anonymous

King George’s song was inspired by a conversation Lin MM had with Hugh Laurie over drinks! Lin said he wanted to write a breakup song from the King to the colonies and Hugh Laurie wagged his finger and said “You’ll be back!”

Anonymous

Long time fan, new Patreon member! 🙌 This was soooooo fun!!! I would love to see you react to the song First Burn - it’s the first version Lin Manuel wrote of the song Burn and it’s sooooooo good!

Anonymous

Yesss I was literally about to comment that as well! First Burn is *chefs kiss* 😙👌

Anonymous

Highly recommend looking up Daveed Diggs other projects, he's an incredible rapper. clipping. is one of my favorite projects he's done

Anonymous

me yelling at you every time you’re talking over an important line and miss something

Bev Rousch

"The orphanage" gets me every time. I cried my face off.

Anonymous

YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THE MIXTAPES NOW

Anonymous

Eliza gasping at the end is her breaking the fourth wall and seeing everyone who came to see her story

Anonymous

MIXTAPES NEXT!!! They are so good omg this was delightful.

Anonymous

I got to see one of the tours live in Dallas! It was fantastic, even though that night the understudy for Hamilton was on.

Anonymous

Also I'm like 5 minutes into this and I can't believe Troy's watching this without subtitles (or memorizing the OBC album beforehand like I and 99% of the audience does). There's so many WORDS

Cole S

you don’t have to react but make sure you listen to the the studio album!!

Laurynn

i watched hamilton just to watch this and understand your reaction in its entirety. dude. so so good. my letterboxd review is the SAME as your reaction. "I get it now" LOL. King George ate so bad

Anonymous

I literally joined just to go through watching this with you and it was so worth it !

Anonymous

There’s a fan theory that Eliza is one of the only characters who doesn’t rap because she has time. She lives a full life while the others have to rush to say everything they want to before they die

Anonymous

TBH; I've watched your account for too long without joining. This Hamilton viewing has me paying forever lol I'm in and apologize

Anonymous

Fun fact: The real Burr later referred to Hamilton in pieces of writing as "my dear friend, whom I shot". So definitely some complicated feelings there! Loved the reaction, thanks very much <3

Toya Mcglothen

I saw clips of you watching Hamilton on tiktok and literally joined just so I could watch you watch it 🤣

Anonymous

as a theatre nerd, i LOVE this but this also INFURIATES me about how you’re talking through the BEST parts 😂 love you Troy but DAMN 🤫🤐🫶

Anonymous

I wish when people recommended Hamilton, they explained the thing where certain actors play multiple characters because it is WILD how often reactors don't get it

Erin PJC

Here’s a video showing how Satisfied and Helpless are the exact same choreo/event from the different sisters perspectives https://youtu.be/wD2LdRGyhwY?si=3JzqSBUKt70ijyFu

Anniina Hannukainen

i’ve seen this ten times but i cried with you

Anonymous

Why didn't they get a 9 year old? Ahhh, because he's about to get shot and that would be weird for a kid...

Anonymous

Tbf, i was confused for a moment when I saw it on Broadway in 2016 but eventually understood haha

Anonymous

Troy. Dear. Please start watching these with subtitles so you can actually see the lyrics lol

Cara M

Ahhhh! I’m a theatre kid (now drama teacher) who is ALSO a recalcitrant. There are many things I won’t watch when people say “you’ll love it!” Ugh. I won’t NOW

Anonymous

You and Dylan are my faves. If you entered your Dylan Bag, I would die happily ngl

Anonymous

Everytime I think about this I break out into the most ugly cry

Anonymous

Now you should listen to the Hamilton mixtape album it has some really good songs on there

Kitty Thornton

I *knew* you'd love it hahaha

Anonymous

Got my teenage daughter and my musical hating husband into Hamilton when I played this. We saw the it live a year ago, it was even better.

Anonymous

So some bits that came up in the first half- Angelia is “looking for a mind at work.” An intellectual equal which she found in Hamilton. They wrote to each other regularly and she was a political advisor to him. She’s basically the smartest person in the whole show which is bourn out historically. She also advised Thomas Jefferson for many years. Hamilton and John Laurens were likely lovers for many years during the war phase. There are absolutely beautiful letters between them that are worth a read. Hamilton was born in the Caribbean which is where the show starts. And yes Lin-Manuel wrote EVERY SINGLE WORD, 20 odd K of them. Alex Lacamoire wrote that stunning score and Andy Blankenbueler is the genius choreographer. Tommy Khail is the Director who pulled it all together. I would highly recommend watching the full Kennedy Centre Honours special (15 mins or so) to see the full scope of the impact of this show.

Olivia McAuliffe

God - I was sobbing right along with you. Had to pause the stream lmao

Anonymous

you should do SIX it’s so fun!! it’s more concert like than anything but the music is so amazing and i think you would like it

Anonymous

i was already thinking about subbing to patreon for the rep stadium tour, but much like hamilton in act 2, i couldn’t say no to THIS. such a good musical and idc if burr is the opp, i still kind of love him. it was nice to see someone else sobbing through the entire last 40 minutes with me

Melissa_Reads

Aaron Burr Sir is my favorite! He also has some of the best songs.

Alejandra

This is bringing back into my Hamilton phase, this musical was my life for so long. It felt so nostalgic to watch it and see it through the eyes of someone like you, watching it for the first time.💜

Anonymous

Joined just to watch this review! I loved watching you react to this amazing play! Can’t wait to see what else is on your patreon!!!

Letty

I came here only for Hamilton, I love it!! thank you ;)

Anonymous

pls pls pls pls react to heathers plssssss

Anonymous

I got to see it in person one time and it was FANTASTIC. I cry every time.

Rachel

absolutely amazing

Robin7

now react to tick tick boom.

Robin7

please. tick tick boom.

Anonymous

Fun thing about the lyricism of Hamilton. The reason Hamilton raps everything is because rap is the quickest way to say as many words as possible. It's supposed to show how he wanted to get as much done in the time he had (which ended up being shorter than anticipated obviously). Whereas, Eliza never raps a single word because she had the most time out of them all.

Anonymous

I'm here from instagram and that pipeline to a 30 second reel to watching you for 3 hours was so quick 😂 quality stuff man, keep up the good work.

Anonymous

Subscribed to the Patreon just to watch this video. Super glad that you had a good time watching it. If you didn't already know, there is an Album called The Hamilton Mixtape with different covers of songs from Hamilton, some re-imagined songs, as well as songs that didn't make it into the Musical. I think that would be an excellent follow up to this video.

Anonymous

Subbed on here just for this

Anonymous

Please watch tick tick boom, you will BAWL

Anonymous

I BEG U LISTEN TO THE HADESTOWN SOUNDTRACK (and maybe watch a bootleg of it)

Anonymous

I would be down for a whole musical viewing series. My personal favs are Legally Blonde and SIX.

Anonymous

I've been looking for this comment bc I didn't wanna just repeat what other people were saying BUT YES OMG. And if he sees this: First Burn is the first version/draft of Burn that he decided to not include because it didnt feel like Eliza as much (basically it felt too ragey)

Anonymous

We really need tick tick boom in here rn

Allison Blonder

no seriously, jonathan groff NOT wiping away his spit during "you'll be back" is the only evidence I need that i can't be an actor because it would drive me crazy. the fact that he just kept going, didn't stray from character at ALL. yeesh. love him.

Allison Blonder

Troy, you would love some behind the scenes. I remember PBS did a great episode and it's so cool to hear Lin talk about his process behind each character's rapping/singing styles.

Allison Blonder

Also the video of Lin performing "Alexander Hamilton" for the first time at the White House is so funny

Madie

PERIOD TROYYYY! You have got to listen to first burn omg

Liam Mcfarlane

Tick, tick… boom should definitely be next but also if you have Apple TV+ (or even just if you get a free trial) there’s a great musical on there called Come From Away about a small town called Gander, Newfoundland where a bunch of planes had to land when US airspace was closed on 9/11 and how the people of this town and surrounding towns took care of the thousands of stranded plane passengers, it’s honestly the most heartwarming show

Allison Blonder

I'm SO glad you liked it Troy. I cry during the ending, "Who Tells Your Story," every. single. time. Watching, listening, doesn't matter I'm in tears. I love that it ends with Eliza seeing the audience and realizing that she did ensure the Hamilton legacy was known - and the show is called Hamilton, not Alexander Hamilton, so it honors her as well.

Kat

its crazy as someone who listened to hamilton daily in college to see someone watch it for the first time was such a treat, truly. I had such a fun time watching this please do more in the future

Anonymous

You should know that at the end is not Alexander taking Eliza's hand. Is Lin Manuel showing Eliza that he tells her story, that is why Eliza breaks down the 4th wall.

beyjungce

watched the bootleg broadway version at least 5 times, disney recording one thrice, in person once, and this was the first watch-along where i didn't cry bc you keep cracking me up lmaoooo.

beyjungce

but honestly when u get into the hamilton lore (aka stone-cold history) it gets crazier. how maria reynolds enlisted burr to help her divorce james reynolds. burr losing theodosia (his daughter) at sea almost a decade after killing hamilton, and he attempted to start his own country after; just insane stuff. eliza arriving by philip's side in black was bc peggy died just a few months before, which was why alexander mentioned "your mother can't take another heartbreak." before their son's duel.

Anonymous

come from away is such a great show. i’ve seen it twice and i think my parents have gone seven times at this point. makes me cry every time

Kova

Do more of LMM please, in the heights is just as good.

Anonymous

that was so amazing troy. i got to relive my entire obsession with this musical and the history behind it. thank you for showing this to us!!

Kaitlin Danielle

"I am a theatre kid, but bigger than my inner theatre kid is my sheer hispter defiance" is the exact reason that I too didn't watch or listen to this musical till this year too hahahahaha

Anonymous

I Loved this! But Hamilton is a masterpiece you should listen to every word they’re singing and I think you missed a lot sadly :(

Arianna Rodriquez

It’s so crazy bc I saw a clip of them singing the opening song at the White House back when I was in high school. I actually really loved the song, so I would listen to it over and over. I’m not sure why I never went and listened to the full soundtrack. But I recently got into it this year and I’m so upset that I never got into it back then! But honestly yours has been my favorite reaction to Hamilton!! I’m not much of a history buff but I looooove this play and I love Lin Manuel Miranda lol. You should check out In The Heights, another one I love! (I’ve only seen the movie though)

Anonymous

I have a really hard time sitting through long movies due to ADHD and it's so nice when you post things like this. Makes me feel like I'm watching with a friend.

Anonymous

i had a serious hamilton obsession in middle school and have actually seen the show live! genuinely one of the best pieces of entertainment ive ever seen tbh

Faith B

oh my god same!!! big phase in middle school into high school and got to see it live at my local theater but then i got tired of it for a while but I'm back in it lol ive watched this reaction at least 3 times now and it never gets old haha

Anonymous

sobbing my eyes out over phillip and you have to say “he was just standing on business” and make me laugh

Anonymous

eliza's gasp at the end always breaks me. i don't even know why it just makes me sob so hard lmao

Jess Naegele

I’m actually in SHOCK that you looked away from the screen at exactly 1:48:21 and missed the tablecloth getting pulled out from under him. Like literally looked away at just that moment.

Anonymous

Saw a clip of this on tiktok and decided I desperately wanted to watch the whole thing with you. I'm glad I did. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm gonna be into any of the other content you do, but it seems like you have a great vibe and a great fanbase so I'm happy I could contribute just a little bit this month, especially for such a brilliant video!

Alondra Dominique

Now you have to react to the hamildrops and the hamilton mixtape.

Lee. E.

In the Heights movie next!!!!!!

Anonymous

I love going between the two ideas of the ending. Is it Eliza Hamilton seeing the crowd or is it Eliza passing and going to see Alexander and Phillip and such?

Madison VanBurkleo

I have never yelled at you more than when you didn’t know Washington was coming out because you talked over it & then you missed your place on the video 💀😂😂

Anonymous

Please watch this: https://youtu.be/uV4UpCq2azs?si=lp7ZBmGqHK4GzL_h

Anonymous

mr haze sir i cannot tell you how many times i have rewatched this video it fixes my brain chemistry

Anonymous

I think we need a Hamilton pt2 reaction. Too much to take in all in one.

Anonymous

I enjoy my cry with you

Leanna🫶🏻

You should watch In The Heights now for sure

Leanna🫶🏻

Hey Daveed Diggs (Lafayette/Jefferson) has some really cool songs and cyphers. You should totally look up his one with Wayne Brady. Also his soundrap group Clpping. He’s actually so talented.

Anonymous

pretty sure this is Eliza passing because she talks just a second ago about how she can't wait to see Alexander again. Could be wring but that's always what I've thought

Anonymous

Yeah but she sees him and takes his hand before that reaction- I genuinely think he is ushering her forward to show her the audience and all the people that are watching her story and effected by it

Anonymous

Because there’s even an ongoing debate on if Hamilton is named Hamilton after Alexander Hamilton or Eliza Hamilton bc at the end of it all it really does become her story

Elizabeth Gatewood

I’m late but did anyone ask for you to review the cut song Congratulations? PLS

mary-anne

A 4/5 for Satisfied?! that’s the best songggg 😩😭

Hays Fischer

i literally was SO UPSET BAHAHHA LIKE NOOO I WAS WAITING FOR HIS REACTION TO IT

Anonymous

Plz listen to the Hamildrops

I just watched Hamilton live a couple weeks ago for the first time after being obsessed for so long and I CRIED so much!! (Especially bc I could actually hear Hamilton's real melodies oop)

I'd recommend watching In The Heights if u haven't seen it before! It's a musical about an immigrant family and has a lot of hip-hop and some rap. It's also by Lin Manuel Miranda:)

Anonymous

i just watched Hamilton live as a birthday gift on the 17th and it was incredible we were so close to the stage! the only part i didn’t like was that i sat behind two VERY VERY tall people

Anonymous

Can you please do a reaction to the Hamilton mixtape or in the heights? both are really good

Anonymous

As someone who has watched Hamilton many times it’s still gets me right in my feels - your reaction to the musical was 💯

Ursula

One of my fav songs is Dear Theodosia. I saw the show live with my family and was sitting next to my dad (who had just beaten cancer) and when Burr started singing to his daughter we both started crying. <3

Dayana Martinez

I watched a clip on TikTok and here I am! I downloaded Patreon, made an account, searched your name, clicked join, paid, and looked for Hamilton. All within 5 mins, I was in awe of your reaction from the first 2 mins I watched on TikTok. Here I go to click play, am I going to be satisfied? Get it 😆its my fav song of the musical

Kelly Michelle

I am a sub on youtube and then saw a Hamilton clip on TikTok. I subscribed just to watch this but I am here to stay! Hamilton was like a warm hug during the pandemic on Disney+ and I have now seen it 3 times live on stage. It's incredible every time and I will never not laugh and cry through it all. Thank you for doing this one! I love watching people experience it for the first time.

Juliet Feltwell

I watched it live in San Francisco and oh my god amazing. when Philip dies and she does her scream I lost it I started balling. I’m so glad you got to enjoy it it’s not the end of the world if you don’t see it but it’s special it pulls at your heart strings.

Caroline Vitanza

The way I didn’t even know you’d done this reaction til I saw it on tiktok and I RAN to watch the whole thing. This is one of those shows that makes me sob every time without fail. I’ve listened to this soundtrack since high school but it feels like no time has passed. It’s still a work of genius. I suppose it’s proof how much I love good poetic writing. Taylor Swift is my fave artist too lol. The quill has its hold on me for sureeee. It’s such a solid show for so many reasons and I’m so glad you enjoyed it!!! It was a pleasure to watch it again

BECK

no womanly distractions ✋… [enter a womanly distraction] KILLLEEED MEEE LMAOO

FYI Eliza lived to be 97 years old.

Karrina Warren

Shape of you was released a year after this first made Broadway, just saying!!

Abbi Sumandal

Ive watched Hamilton tons. I haven’t enjoyed it as much as I did since the very first time until I watched YOU watch it for the first time! Laughed and cried with you like watching with a friend 🖤 glad you enjoyed it as much as I did the first time.

Rebecca Karaman

I would love to see you react to Epic: the Musical 👀

Sasa Marie

I saw some TikToks about your reaction to Hamilton and had to join and see the whole thing. Loved it. Thank you!!

Sasa Marie

Also when you thought Angelica said “I’m looking for a minor” that was my favorite thing in life

sarah

PLEASE WATCH WAITRESS

Evan Middlebrooks

I found you bc of Beyonce and joined to make sure I watched this reaction. It’s worth a rewatch without reacting so you can follow and get all the crazy details. Like in Reynolds pamphlet everyone is going buck wild on stage lol Also, Angelica’s looking for a MIND at work not a minor 😂

mimu

this reaction is so funny cause troy missed some of the coolest moments just turning to the camera and talking 😭😭 ur so real troy
