hey hey! mid-week stream and we're back listening to another one y'all have been requesting - the new Gracie Abrams "The Secret of Us". Not as emotional as the first album,I'll say but I'll let the video say the rest. of course, my review is up on AOTY if you'd like to read that too. This album really grew on me after listening to it for like a week straight. It sucks because her writing on This is What it Feels Like is so amazing, like where is the pen on this album?? And I already bought tickets for her tour, so I have to like the album….

definitely have to preface that the album concept is about going home to your friends and venting about experiences — a very ritualistic and cathartic way to deal with my emotions — which is relatable. i find humor in the weirder lines like, “i was so impressed by your hotel” and “while i’m in my underwear, eating through my feelings.” she’s talked about how this album was the most fun she had while writing: her and audrey — her best friend and roommate — kept the lines they wrote that made them laugh out loud. this album is definitely not for everyone — but it is for me and i get to enjoy it — and that is the beauty of music. love ya troy and always enjoy your reactions <3

Honestly the album felt super underwhelming to me when I first listened to it too but it’s recently really grown on me! Maybe you’ll have different opinions later on. But I do think it’s a difference of experience, gender, where you’re at in life, etc. However I do think that you saying “us.” isn’t lyrically deep is objectively wrong 😂 but you didn’t really take time to analyze the lyrics at all so that makes sense. I didn’t at first either. Always interesting to hear your takes as a producer though!

This album was incredibly boring and I’m pretty sure I fell asleep partway through. The only saving “grace” was watching you and your honest opinion! Thanks for keeping it real and don’t let the haters get you down. There are people here who understand music is subjective and what works for one person does not work for another. Additionally, how crazy that people comment you didn’t like the music because of “you’re missing lore”? Pretty sure I loved Fleetwood Mac before I knew what Rumours was actually about because it is just plain good music to me.

The “I’m glad I don’t know shit about music so I can enjoy this album” is a real mood listening to Troy sometimes. Like there are times I see Troy tear apart some of my truly favourite songs and I’m just nodding along like “everything you’ve said is correct 🥲” and then I can’t not notice those things ever again lol. And depending on the song sometimes I’ll continue to love it and sometimes I’ll never enjoy it the same again 😂
