This was a word prompt scenario I did to help get me back into the groove of writing when I got back from Xmas break!

- Granted

- Pause

- Intrusion

“How did you get access to this place again?” Morgan mumbles as she waits with an impatient huff beside me.

I fiddle with the keycard, eventually dropping it through the slot.

The lock turns green. The door clicks open.

I turn to her with a grin, pocketing the keycard back in my jeans. “Being as charming as I am grants me access to a lot of things.”

“I bet,” she replies with a smirk of her own, easing closer until the warmth of her breath washes over me.

I clear my throat. “We better get inside before the security guards are back.”

I hadn’t exactly imagined our first trip together to the Big City would be to steal a file from a potential Trapper group leader, but then I suppose our job doesn’t lead to much romantic sight-seeing either.

Morgan squeezes past me down the dark corridor. “This way.”

I follow behind, keeping my hand on her back so as I don’t lose her as she twists around corners and turns down the hallways.

We finally make it to the office we were searching for, pausing to listen inside for anyone. The lights are out, but there’s a slight warmth to the air and a faint smell of coffee that makes me wonder if someone still lingers around.

“No one’s here,” she whispers.

I glance about, seeing nothing in the pitch blackness. “Are you sure?”

“Unless someone can stop me hearing their heartbeat, then yeah, sweetheart/handsome, I’m sure.”

I roll my eyes before twisting the door handle and creeping in.

The heat in this room is even warmer, to the point that I have to tug at my high-necked sweater. It felt a bit of a cliché to wear a black outfit for breaking and entering, but it works.

Flicking on my phone’s torch, I flash it over the area, taking in the shadowed sight of a large desk, a couple of filing cabinets, and a large chair. There’s no laptop or computer on the surface.

“So much for getting the file from his computer,” Morgan comments, stepping through the room without need of the torch.

My gaze and the torchlight land on the drawer on his desk. “I don’t think this guy values tech very much.” I gesture to the well-used filing cabinets.

“Some people just aren’t willing to join the modern age.”

I half-smile. “Are you referring to a certain person when you say that?”

Morgan’s chuckle reverberates from the darkness.

I creep to the desk, giving the drawer a yank and not at all surprised to find it locked. I jostle it again, tipping over a pen pot on the desk as I do.

We freeze in place.

My heartbeat hammers in my ears.

But there’s only silence.

I exhale a breath.

“Want to alert everyone that we’re here, sweetheart/handsome?” I can just about see her shaking her head as she approaches. “Because you’re doing a damn good job.”

“You think you can do better?” I step away from the desk while spreading my hands out towards it.

Morgan grips the drawer, frowns when it won’t release, frowns even deeper when it won’t even budge an inch…and then rips the drawer out from its place with an all-mighty crack!

I purse my lips as I stare at the drawer hanging loosely in her grasp, splinters dropping to the floor, and the wood barely attached to the handle.

“Oh yes. That was much better, sunshine. So stealthy. I’m sure no one heard—”

She holds up her free hand and growls, “I get it.” She shoves the broken drawer onto the desk, its contents amazingly still in place. “Find what we need. I’ll keep an eye out.”

She moves away, and I take her place to rifle through the papers. It’s only a few seconds before I find what we need. I roll up the file and shove it into my pocket, making my way to the door.

“Let’s go,” I mutter, making to move past her into the dark hallway, when a hand falls on my shoulder. As I turn back to her, her lips find mine.

I forget what it was we were doing.

Or even where we are.

My fingers tangle in her hair, deepening the kiss, breaking apart for only a second to catch my breath before diving in for more.

“What was that for?” I mumble against her lips.

I can feel her smile against me even if I can’t truly see it.

“A reward for a job well done,” she whispers, pecking at my lips again gently.

I chuckle. “Maybe we should get out of here first before celebrating.”

“I have plans for that celebration too.”

“I bet you do.”

We both flinch as a blast of alarms blares around us. Red lights flash into existence. The intruder alert system is certainly working.

I look over at Morgan, who is wincing away from the sudden intrusion into her senses, and place my hand on her arm. She relaxes at my touch.

“You ready?”

She manages a smirk. “Sweetheart/Handsome, I’m always ready.”

Mishka, the more you write these exquisite scenes the more anticipation I have for book 3. And more scenes with my second favorite vampire.

seraphinitegames

I'm currently writing a scene for Book Three that I can't wait to see people's reactions to...hehehe :D

D00MSDAYEFFECT

espionage scenes like this one, for some reason it makes my heart pause as I read them. Job well done as always so can not wait for the 3rd book. I do have a silly question however, the word "torch" is that referring to a "flashlight" or do they have a magic phone that has a literal flame? Again I know silly but English is not my first language and want to make sure I translated it right lol

seraphinitegames

It is in reference to a flashlight, yeah :D I think it's a UK thing! Though now I seriously want a magical flamethrower phone!

D00MSDAYEFFECT

Thank you for taking the time to answer that. Was hesitant to ask a silly question like that. As for the flame thrower phone think I'll take a play out if your book and say, you never know what the agency has cooked up for field operatives. Lol

seraphinitegames

Please never hesitate to ask any question! No question is silly :) And now I'm super tempted to get that flamethrower in there somewhere as an easter egg, lol!

Alpna
