An ark of the covenant that has impressive, maybe supernatural powers, and a cup that gives eternal life are believable, but this isn't? This is on par with the others, just as unbelievable as they are. It's no more strange.

For me, it wasn't that it was unbelievable. It was that the Ark of the Covenant, the Sankara Stones, and the Holy Grail were more mystical, so the whole alien thing felt tonally out of place. But, eventually, I realized that the franchise is more about the historical/archeological side than the mystical.
