Production update 2024-02-15 (Patreon)

Hello!

I am back from the dead. Long story short: I started 2024 with a bad cold and it felt like I never got back into the groove since then. January was among my lowest moments in terms of general energy and motivation levels. Could be that we had an insanely low amount of sunlight that month. Anyway, I'm trying to move on from that and look forward!

Next video

The video I am currently working on is the world record explained of Mike Tyson's Punch Out!! by Summoning Salt. That's right, the mighty collab is happening!

Now, I started working on it last month, but like I said, I've been pretty useless so I haven't made a ton of progress. Regardless, here's what it looks like right now.

Note that I'm estimating the length of the script based on how many sections I've completed. At 9/16, technically the estimate is over 8000 words, but I doubt it's gonna go much above 7000. That means about 35 minutes of talking, 15 minutes of run, so we're looking at a 50-minute video.

I'm still feeling a bit unmotivated right now, it's really hard to get into the groove. Punch Out is not a game I know very well to begin with, which makes it a bit harder to get going. But usually, once I'm going, I'm going!

Production livestream

So, to get me going, I'm going to do a production livestream all day tomorrow. As an apology for being radio silent for over a month, I'll make it available for everyone. I will be editing the first section of the video, the context around this run (mostly a tour of the game mechanics).

Expect this stream to start around noon and last about 5 hours.

Plans for 2024

My plans for 2024 include, but are not limited to:

- SMB1 warpless TAS

- Ocarina of Time Defeat Ganon No SRM

And this one, I'm still on the fence about: working with Super Mario 64 again. Another large multi-part project that surprisingly doesn't have that much in common with the ABC History. It would be a full breakdown of the upcoming new 120 star TAS. The only problem is, that project has been in the works for about 10 years now and is still not very close to completion. The standard is so high that no one has the combination of knowledge, dedication and availability to make significant progress. But I'm hopeful that it might get finished in the next year or two, and I could get working on explaining all the nonsense in a multi-part video (thinking about 6 40-minute videos would be required but it's hard to say).

Lastly, a big project in my personal life: my girlfriend and I will be travelling to Barcelona and staying for nearly a year! It's not official yet: she's about to apply for a Masters degree program at BAU university, so hopefully she is accepted, and we will be there for a year. If all goes well, we are leaving in early to mid-September, and we'll travel to France, Belgium and the Netherlands for about a month in June-July 2025 and then come back home. Then, we'll be looking for a new place to live - possibly become homeowners!
