My Hero Academia always had a hint of things being dangerous and deadly, with the possibility of characters getting seriously injured or narrowly avoiding death. Up until now characters dying was just something characters talked about in the past, like All Might's teacher, or Kota (the kid that Deku saved in the forest) losing his parents. I'm very glad that at this late stage they're willing to take the kid gloves off and take it to the next logical step of maturity, and that's permanent losses, permanent consequences for characters that we've spent the entire series getting to know, it really packs a punch and definitively shows that we've entered a new era for the anime. Heroes and Villains going all out at each other and fighting to the death. There's nothing like that feeling of knowing no one is safe and that the stakes are real. If everyone kept getting away with injuries that don't really matter or can easily be mitigated, it'd take all the suspense out of it.

Twice… Is it the end? The ending being changed with him disappearing from Toga’s life…
