The fire benders should know the day of the eclipse, there's also the fact that the Earth King told Azula about the day of the invasion when she and her friends were dressed up as Kyoshi Warriors.

That guard that you mentioned sounded familiar, is actually voiced by Serena Williams. Yeah, the tennis player Serena Williams. Probably the most surprising cameo in the whole show, but certainly a welcome one. I don't have too much to say yet, since this is part one of the invasion, but it was a great episode. Seeing everyone we've met throughout the show come back and join forces for the invasion is satisfying to see. Can't wait for the next one!
