It's kind of funny when you say that you were hoping that this ova would actually show the after story of one of these offshoot relationships. The reason being, because there actually WAS an after story visual novel showing the after story of Okazaki with Tomoyo, it was called "Tomoyo After: It's a Wonder Life" (Although this VN has a small amount of adult content unlike the rest of Clannad, they could have cut that out if they wanted to for an OVA). Whereas there wasn't an after story for Kyou. So they really could have actually done an after story OVA like that showing the future of his relationship with Tomoyo, and they could have used this OVA as the one for the first season. That, or they could have just had a Tomoyo After OVA as a sequel to the first one. Better yet though, I would say that since we do already have a Tomoyo After visual novel, it would have been nice to see an after story for Kyou that hadn't been told anywhere. Anyways, it's sad to see Clannad finished, but this has been a great ride. I loved your insights throughout this series, can't wait to see what else you're looking to cover in the future.

I think its really interesting how the 3 romances the anime showed all result in very different kinds of conflicts for Tomoya (love triangle issue here, social status issue with Tomoyo, illness and death with Nagisa). And I'm oversimplifying. They really covered a wide range. I love Kyou a lot, she might be my favorite girl, but like you I'm not the biggest fan of love triangles, and there's even some painful infidelity involved, so I never thought too highly of this OVA. That being said, I don't dislike it as much as I once did. It's pretty well-written. A less painful Kyou route would have made me happy, yes, but Clannad clearly doesn't just give happy easy romances. Even if there's a happy end, the characters (and viewers, consequently) always have to suffer a lot to get there. Anyway, I hope you're doing well! Nice reaction as always.
