Haha,I get what piece of music from Kaguya you were talking about. The thing was really unexpected. I want to think that it was a reference to the entire genre as a whole, although I would not be surprised if it was also a reference to the Clannad itself, because the anime is pretty ancient ( Released in 2007, wow). Perhaps later in Kaguya you will feel some Deja Vu in relation to one moment from this episode in particular.

It's just like you said, it's based on a visual novel, but they changed how the story plays out and mixed the other routes in between, what made this anime so great. After you watch the OVA's I'll tell you more, so there isn't any spoilers =) I loved the reaction as always, I'm so glad you are watching Clannad, it's such a special show to me, I watched it when I was 12 and rewatched it lots of times ever since, in different times of my life. I really like how you are positive about things, it's such a contrast of what is considerated "normal" nowadays =) If you ever get interested in playing a Visual Novel someday, I absolutely recommend the ones from the same company as Clannad, "Key", they are as much famous as TypeMoon (Fate series, Tsukihime, Kara no Kyoukai) in japan. Key made Clannad, Kanon, Air, Rewrite, Little Busters, all amaaazing VN's and they also made some great original anime like Charlotte and Angel Beats(later it got a VN too).
