In FE: Three Houses you are recruited as a professor at a sort of military college. You choose one of three classes of students to be in charge of. While those are your students, over the course of the game you can attempt to woo students away from the other houses to join yours, by increasing your relationship with them and catering to their interests. You do this because no matter which house you choose, there are always students from other houses with skills or personalities that you desire. Also 5 years after school you can marry one of your students (or so I've read; I'm not that far yet).
