So I usually just stick to having all my fur based on a single vertex group, and nothing else. 

But this time, I finally decided to try my hand at using a texture to control things like the fur length for me. I can also use it to help control where hair grows, with a higher degree of precision.

The mop you fur you see here, is all just one big unit for testing. Its not the final form, that is coming soon.

He looks awesome! :D I'm curious though, what purpose does that rod thing serve? The one going through his head.

Ahh, I keep forgetting how odd that must look, its just a object that tells me where the jawbone should rotate from. If I where to lose that, it would be hard get the jaw to close properly.
