A cathode ray tube (CRT) is a used as a display in a computer monitor or TV. In a CRT, a beam of electrons can be focused on a phosphorescent viewing screen and rapidly varied in position and intensity to produce an image. It uses a large evacuated glass envelope which has a very distinctive funnel shape.
