Mike and Jay Talk About Cobweb

It's the return of RLM's most popular series, Jeb and Mark Blark Abort! This time, we bring attention to this Halloween-centric movie that was inexplicably released the same weekend as Barbie and Oppenheimer: Cobweb! The movie was doomed to have abysmal box office and nobody knows why it was release when it was, not even Lionsgate!

What I enjoyed most about the film was that, once we had established the unreliable child POV, the narrative seemed to be sculpted by someone who knew at least as much about the "thing in the walls" genre as I do. Many films end up being a "guess the real ending" game along the way, but here I felt in the presence of a magician who could riff and play at the plethora of possibilities (at one point, I was wondering if we had a Twilight Zone "The Howling Man" situation where the parents were actually good, but unworldly - the hints were there, but - AHA! - misdirection!) Haunting, external manifestation of trauma, Thing In the Wall, demonic possession, demonic capture, Halloween sacrifice, etc. So many story possibilities in under 90 minutes.

The Real Zam

I found myself wishing the Background Baby Binks would end up in a different (and preferably compromising) position for every wide shot.
