Blood Beat - re:View

Ho ho ho, it's that time of year to revisit your favorite holiday classics like A Christmas Story, Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer, and Blood Beat. A movie about a ghost samurai murdering people in rural Wisconsin.

oh hell yes, can't wait to watch this tonight. saw Jay tweet about it last year and it was a real trip, did not disappoint.

Looking forward to watching this because that movie is a pile of shit.

The title is a perfect analogy to the horrors I suffered through puberty; by my own hand.

Based RLM keeping the content flowing. I've said before I love when you guys go deep into the obscure weird films of the past and sure enough this is one of them, haha.

I watched this last week on TUBI. Thank you for your work.

I once again had a feeling this might get discussed, and ordered/watched the Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome last week. GET OUTTA MY HEAD, JAY!!!

Jay: “It’s a weird movie.” LOL

I can't decide which haircut I want more, the mom's or the girlfriend's (Sally? Sarah?).

Two consecutive days of Patreon posts I'm hyperventilating 😍

I don't think there are currently many Hollywood people willing to remake a crappy movie about the fear of outsiders and foreigners. And if they do they'd make the protagonists more unlikable.

I actually saw this! We watched it last Christmas season. It was on Shudder I think. It wasn't too bad. Not the best and not the worst.

I am HERE for Josh's shirt

I feel like you know it's *really* cold in the studio, when Jay breaks out the beanie. Meanwhile, the day it airs, record warm weather in the area. Midwest weather is a bitch. Don't know if y'all have seen it (or if it's legit), but the director's son found the Re:View on YouTube, and left a sweet comment.

Blood Beat looks delightfully weird. When you've talked about Wisconsin, I had to think about Frasier, because Roz comes from one of those small rural towns in Wisconsin (Bloomer). Now and then they'd make lovingly fun of Wisconsin, the rural life, and Wisconsin being the Dairy State, most notably when she gets a gift from her family, and tells Frasier how she misses them. The writers have included a couple of cheese puns in their dialogue. And Aunt Libby does cannonballs in the lake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8hJc-wKvm3I

Wisconsin... the most depressing level of hell...

Done some "research" on this, and if you count any movie with a Christmas scene in it, approximately 90% of movies are Christmas movies.

The director's son is in the comments saying nice things. It's the the third time that i remember seeing directors, writers etc. post in the YT comments and I always wonder if the RLM crew even sees it since they get so many comments to begin with.

Oh, looks like the band who scored the movie is in there too. Neat.

Watched the movie and I agree with Jay, it's...........weird. Not BOTW material really though it surely isn't good. It's bizarre and almost incoherent but fascinating....

Excellent review! Since rural Wisconsin looks to be nearly identical to parts of rural Minnesota, I think I’ll pass on viewing the film. But thank you, and happy winter!

Awesome! This is one I’ll have to check out. This is very reminiscent of rural Canada for me lol, like these guys with Wisconsin. Lots of similarities haha

I’m so curious as to where -exactly- in Wisco this is. Some of those woodsy/hilly backdrops look like western Wis, and being from LAX I’m so interested! Anyways - as always, thanks for all the fascinating stuff you present us with, guys! ☺️

Shout out to Blood Beat and the Chooper from the 2014 New Years Day stream Jay hosted! Up next - Ishtar?

I purchased the Vinegar Syndrome BR last year based on Mr. Bauman’s endorsement and the bits of images/footage on Imbd, etc. This re:View sums it up exactly: in no way a BOTW movie, way out weird, almost indecipherable story & concept. But lots of great shots (and bad ones) and a very interesting tone & texture. The settings and the house are so cool - the tea scene is one of the weirdest things you’ll ever see in a film (I mean what the HELL?) and the special effects are unlike anything else and kind of perfect. When I saw that this episode was on the way, I knew it would be awesome. I think Blood Beat is what the guys talk about when a movie is so out-there and special, it “becomes something else.” An excellent Xmas detour - and this rV is fantastic.

Late to the comment train, but oh well. My friend and I used to do a bad movie night when lockdown first started and he had picked this movie once. After it was over I was like, I bet Jay has seen this movie.
