Hey everyone. We shot two videos this week. The first is a re:View of the 1997 not-classic Event Horizon. It's not a movie that none of us love or had even seen since it originally came out, so it's a slightly different approach for a re:View episode. And the other video is a Half in the Bag for Godzilla vs. Kong (that also goes a fair amount into a retrospective of the other movies in the "Monster-verse" or whatever you want to call it that lead up to this movie). Coming soon!

hell yeah godzilla vs kong!!!

Oooh looking forward to the Re:View!

Can wet a 47-part video series on Godzilla vs Kong? I’m afraid that only one video on the subject will simply not be enough

Joe Takach

Event Horizon and In The Mouth of Madness are the reason we were no longer allowed to rent from West Coast Video. My sister rented them under my moms account and never returned them. My mom refused to pay the fees and we got banned.

Rhea

Event Horizon is one of my favorite movies ever so I might have literally gasped when I read this. Extremely stoked to see you guys be 'meh' about it. ❤️

Anonymous

How does Paul Anderson get so much work? Does he have pictures of movie producers on Epstein's rape island?

Mike St Louis

Event Horizon is the one film Paul WS Anderson directed that I don’t hate. I’m interested in this re:view I still haven’t watched Skull Island or the last Godzilla. Is it even necessary?

Anonymous

Very cool!

Anonymous

Yes yes yes Event Horizon! I hope you'll nerd about the weird space physics stuff in it.

AshesBoomstick

I was intrigued by "Event Horizon" when I saw it, and then it all went to shit in the third act. Still, I think it's alright.

Anonymous

Event Horizon!? Creepy Sam Neill haunts my dreams. I can't wait.

Anonymous

That's a no from me on Event Horizon, it's one of the few horror movies that scares me.

Charlie

Ooo! Event Horizon. A truly mediocre film salvaged by a great concept, memorably disturbing imagery and of course Sam Neil explaining wormholes with a folded piece of paper (which might actually be a sci-fi trope??)

Anonymous

Event horizon is the only decent movie of Paul. W. S. Anderson.

Anonymous

Think they’ll ever review “The Fifth Element”?

Peter Varga

I really loved Event Horizon back in its time. I often wonder if it still holds up. Well I guess I'l find out in your re:View! or I could just watch it again. nah, it's gonna be the re:View.

Tanya

Yeeees, Event Horizon! Such a great garbage film.

Peter Robinson

I liked Skull island although there are too many characters and I didn’t like any of them (except Kong and John C Reilly) I liked Event Horizon. Could have been the start of a decent Doom movie. The use of colour is nice too. I can’t remember how it ends do I guess there’s no big cgi monster fight.

Manuel Johnen

"Event Horizon" is what happens if you throw "Alien", "Shining", "Hellraiser" and "Solaris" into a blender... surprisingly, I find it to be a much better movie than three of those four movies I just listed. A modern classic... I really wished they'd find the footage that was cut back then in that Transylvanian salt mine or wherever the studio got rid of it... :/

Manuel Johnen

If "Event Horizon" folds a piece of paper, it's "weird space physics stuff", but if "Interstellar" does the exact same scene 15 years later or so it's supposedly a "masterpiece" because Nolan is a genius or something... yeah, whatever... :/

Daniel E. Passaro

Cool. I really like Event Horizon despite the fact it’s incredibly flawed. Plus if you just pretend it’s a Doom movie it works out really well.

Manuel Johnen

Except for the inappropriate late 90s space techno score during the credits it holds up remarkably well...

Anonymous

That movie scared the crap out of me, when i saw it in the theater lol... I aint ashamed.

Andre K

Event Horizon is the only movie I ever walked out on. Since then I've watched it and, while it's not good, it's not as bad as I thought it was.

Neil Peart, Lord of Drums

I'm one of those people who has always enjoyed Event Horizon. Sam Neill is awesome in it, it has tons of freaky imagery, and there are some really good set pieces. I remember when stills started coming out in that horror movie magazine that was around when I was a kid...What was it called? Fangoria? Well, I remember the still of possibly the creepiest shot in the movie: when they walk in on the guy hanging from the ceiling, his entire upper body held open by hooks on wires and his guts all over the medical equipment below. And the photography is legit pretty excellent. Paul WS Anderson actually made a good movie...

Anonymous

Ditto, my friend. Too bad we will never see the true vision of the director. Damn you corporate cowards! Release the PWSA Cut!

Anonymous

I hope you guys discuss the new home release of Event Horizon and if it is worth the purchase if one already has an earlier release.

Anonymous

"Event Horizon" isn't much to write about but it's still Paul W. S. Anderson's greatest film.

Bart-Rene Thiel

Almost 10,000 patrons! They can buy a lot of booze with that.

JTruts

same here - it was a fun experience, I had to have a smoke after. I know it's a flawed movie but eff it that thing stuck with me for a while.

JTruts

Event Horizon? Interesting choice! Have a soft spot for it, it has its flaws but one of those movies I always decided to watch if I'm ever channel surfing. I say "felt" because channel surfing is a thing of the past now...

JTruts

Also I have to assume SOME DAY you'll re:View Evil Dead series??

That's all you need for event horizon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttVaQ-qnm98

I left the theater after watching Event Horizon with no real high or low opinion of it, it was okay. There has yet to be a good American Godzilla movie.

Anonymous

Oh yeah please consider a Re:View of Meet the Applegates. Thanks.

Sputnik34

Pretty psyched about the re:view. I watched Event Horizon for the first time last year and thought it was pretty terrible lol. Not sure why people look back fondly at it

Anonymous

Thank you for your service! *salutes*

Anonymous

Interesting Re:View choice. I liked it when I first saw it, then much less so when I saw it a few years later. Sam Neil was still pleasingly over-the-top though and there were some good set pieces. It was all a lot sillier than I remembered it, which isn't always a bad thing

Anonymous

Thanks guys! I find myself thinking "Let us know if we can support you in any way" then I remember I'm literally a Patron of your work!

Anonymous

Very exciting news!

Anonymous

Event Horizon is so very nearly a great movie. So very nearly.

Dachannien

Best Lovecraft pastiche in movie form.

Brandon Shane

I watched Event Horizon for the first time this past Halloween during a movie marathon with my friend. It was.............. sure a movie I watched. Hah.

Anonymous

Saw Event Horizon in the theaters when it first came out. It was very . . . loud. Such a disappointment. Then I compulsively watched it over and over when it came to the movie channels. It had such potential!

Madzisstacked

I’ve been waiting for long for a review of event horizon!!! Thank you!!!

Anonymous

The gore scenes that made it into the final cut of the movie made it worth it for me. That and also Sam Neil & Lawrence Fishbourne

Anonymous

I can’t wait, just renewed my $15 a month subscription and it’s worth every fucking penny, best channel on YouTube hands down!

Chris L

I remember back in the Pre-Rec days, whenever the subject of Event Horizon came up (for whatever reason), Rich would say that it's the closest thing to a true Doom movie we'd ever get. I still haven't seen the movie, but Rich's comment plus the fact that Paul WS Anderson directed it leads me to believe that this is probably true. Oh also, it's probably just coincidence, but the fact that there's a new Mortal Kombat movie coming out soon adds another layer to the fact that you're re:Viewing Event Horizon since the first MK movie is arguably 1.) the only good video game based movie ever made, and 2.) the only good Paul WS Anderson movie ever made. And when I say "good", I mean watchable.

AllGoodNamesRGone

I finished Godzilla vs Kong yesterday. This would be a good time to watch previous HitBs for Mike and Jay's opinions on the kaiju cinematic universe.

Kellic

Oh god. Event Horizon. I've turned that into a drinking game. Every time you see a trope take a shot.

Lee

I'm a huge space horror fan and yet I've never watched Event Horizon?!? Finally gonna watch it in preparation for this video. DEAD SPACE is my favorite scary game franchise and a lot of people have called it something along the lines of "Event Horizon: the game"

Silentphil9

"I don't want to see Space Cop again! Please don't make me watch!" "Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see...."

Silentphil9

It's Hellraiser in space, but not the Alan Smithee joint, Hellrasier 4. Event Horizon is a great movie. If you disagree, FIGHT ME! "I'm right! Tums Festival! I'm right! Tums Festival!"

Rhea

Just rewatched it and it's still great so haters can eat my entire ass

schopi

Cool! Just re:watched Event Horizon in 4K. Thought the same as when I'd seen it originally.... some cool ideas and visuals but ultimately very mediocre.....

Anonymous

space jam re:view WHEN

Rick Drake

Event Horizon is such a missed opportunity. I enjoy the movie, but I can see where they whiffed hard. It begs for a decent remake, but how do you replace Sam Neill and Lawrence Fishburne?

Anonymous

Review the old 1978 Battlestar Galactica series PLEASE! You owe it to yourselves and your children! It’s free on TUBI right now, too. I’m kinda amazed it holds up so well actually. Maybe John Dykstra was more Star Wars than GL was.

Anonymous

It looks like the director of the Kong v Godzilla movie is also directing the Event Horizon reboot as well. Very strange.

Anonymous

Please put out the Event Horizon Vid before I possibly die in a freak accident or something

Anonymous

That's how I see Event Horizon too. I want to like it but it just doesn't connect with me.

Anonymous

Fuck ya

Anonymous

All I remember from Event Horizon is the blood orgy. That and Sam Neil's paper/pen explanation.

H37

Event Horizon had always been a fascination with me. Don't love it or hate it, but yes I've seen it five times.

Roxi Mathis

I'm watching Freaky starring Vince Vaughn right now and I gotta say, please please watch it.
