mike bouchard

i watched this a couple of days ago on their initial recommendation. quite a good flick!

I assumed The Kid Detective was a direct to video 90s movie somebody sent them

Anonymous

Watched it last night! It kept us guessing all the way through.

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ah, Coke! The drink! Got it...

I was wondering what to watch later, thanks guys

Lisa

I'm just here for the Armie Hammer jokes.

Getting recommendations for movies like this I would otherwise never have seen is great! Thank you!

Rhea

Until PYW I only knew Adam Brody from the OC which I never actually watched but going to jr. high/high school in Orange County during the time it aired meant there was no escaping it. He's great in this and I hope to see him given more leading roles. Glad you guys are giving this film some well-deserved exposure.

Marvin Falz

Needless to say, I enjoy your old content, and when you reuse old props and costumes (iirc, the helmet Rich (Evans) wore in the bit in BotW, where he made whatever movie it was better by ejecting it out of the spaceship, was the same helmet Cliff Grabowski's alien friend wore), so I liked to watch the Olsen Twins b-roll footage. Besides that I'd watch The Kid Detective based on your recommendation.

Anonymous

The best idea Mike has ever had was suggesting the Olsen twins bring back The Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley.

I really loved this movie, and I would have never heard of it had it not been for this post. Thank you RLM.

Stupid Amazon Prime. I notice every time RLM talks about a movie they make you pay for it and they seem to jack up the prices. Bastards!

Zach Dewoody

I liked the movie but I certainly didn’t have the same reaction as Mike and Jay to the ending. I think it would have been the same with or without the title reveal.

Galewolf

Yeah, can anyone explain the point about the title reveal? It didn't make a big impression on me. I also really liked the film.

Anonymous

I always feel it's easier to be negative when reviewing media, and I can kinda understand the criticism RLM sometimes gets for kicking dead horses etc. But these more positive shorts shine brighter because of it. It's great to see Mike and Jay be critical-but-positive about movies like these. (re:view is similar, but there is always that nostalgic element that muddies the waters, so to speak)

Thanks for the recommendation guys, we just watched it here. Unique movie

Just watched it too, enjoyable romp

Watched it last night. Liked it, but am totally not seeing the humorous stuff about the ending that they were talking about.

Manuel Johnen

I have no intention of ever watching this, so I just went and checked the final scene on YouTube... okay, I'm probably missing a lot of context there, but, yeah, nothing funny about what I was seeing there... :/

Excellent film.

Just watched The Kid Detective- thanks guys! 👍😎

Thanks for the recommendation! Watching it right now. Going to watch your review afterwards.

Anonymous

I'm going to wait and double feature this with the upcoming Danzig vampire western.

Anonymous

Wow! Thanks SO much for the heads-up. A really, really solid film. And one that I probably never would have seen otherwise.

Do a review of Barb and Star

My fiancee and I stopped in the middle of your talk, went straight to Vudu, and enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Thank you so much for helping us find these gems (we also loved "Vast of Night")!

Shoo Shoo Shoo Shoo Shoo Shoo Shoo Shoo Shoo Shoo Shoo Shoo Sugar Town

Anonymous

ditto - this was one of those 'get out of here - go to prime vid - watch movie - come back' moments...

Anonymous

On the surface Sugar Town seems like a cutesy song, but it's about someone taking LSD (on sugar cubes) Lee Hazlewood wrote it as a subversive coded message to 'the kids', to get it past the censors. I haven't seen Kid Detective yet, so I'm not sure if that fits in at all with the plot/themes of the movie, or if he just used it for mood music. Maybe on the level of something seeming innocent that has a darker subtext?
