Now I want a Twinkie Wiener Sandwich...

I start my mergeable day but then redlettermedia cheered me up and now I'm continuing forward to exist until I can watch this video after-work

Yes! Also wearing my UHF tee, how random.

Best way to start off the day

UHF looks like a very enjoyable movie, I had to laugh out loud a couple of times during the re:View. I only knew Weird Al from his parody videos like "Eat It." And "Dare to Be Stupid" is part of the soundtrack of "The Transformers: The Movie" (1986).

Not to give Scary Movie 2 too much credit, because much of the movie is anguish, and the basketball scene lasts way too long, but I did find the way it went from an homage to The Changeling to just people goofing around was kind of a funny tonal shift.

I loved weird comedies like this when I was a kid - still do! Thanks for a fun re:View, guys.

Put down your remote control, throw out your TV guide. Put away your jacket, there's no need to go outside - me singing when I saw this post

Oh, I always thought Weird Al was playing Gandhi in this, too... that's the director..? Wow...

JTruts

If you like Weird Al you'll enjoy UHF. It's got some genuinely good humor in it.

Great video as always. Jay was spot on when mentioning that Weird Al has been around and relevant all his life (mine too). Hopefully he has a few more decades to go!

The funny part about saying the Raiders and Rambo parodies make the movie timeless is that, at the time, my reaction was “Really? A Raiders parody in 1989?” (Rambo had a new movie in ‘88 but Rambo parodies also seemed overdone at the time...)

Daniel Frank

Also, trivia, the reason they don’t have kiddie hosts (much) anymore and indeed, for about 20-or-so years when UHF came out, was that the FCC said people in children’s entertainment couldn’t do commercials. So if your host can’t plug products, why have him introduce cartoons? You can just show the cartoons.

Hey, I still remember those terrible Nike Freestyle commercials inspired by the Stomp musical. Your reference is not lost on me, Scary Movie 2.

Between the Kipper Kids reference in this and the Oingo Boingo tangent in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory episode, I really want to know what Jay thinks about Forbidden Zone.

Jays shirt is making me wanna put up my Halloween decorations

I love Josh’s “fuck yes” kitty shirt. Anyone know where can I get one?

Bort Ward

I remember seeing this on WGN back in the early 90s most Sundays. Thanks for revisiting this.

I came for the stinking badgers, but none delivered.

The Badger scene is a parody of The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. I'm curious how many people ever knew that, since it's quite an obscure move to reference.

Not saying I was a badass as a child, but Weird Al was the first concert I ever went to. And my mom gave me a lighter to sway in the wind for the encore of "Yoda". *flips up collar/whistles "Amish Paradise"/moonwalks out of room

I thought those scenes were funny. I know it wouldn't work today for obvious reasons but at least the joke was that this guy who preached non-violence was this gun toting action hero rather than something about his ethnicity.

Mike St Louis

I haven’t see UHF but I now have a greater appreciation of it. Thanks guys!

I honestly couldn't get over the fact that basically everyone movie he parodies is a classic. It's insane how he has such an eye for picking the best things to make fun of and remaining relevant for, what, 30 years or something? Insane.

I found it! Search for The Bird Machine store on Threadless and you'll find it. You can also search for "Positive Cat" on Threadless and it should pop right up.
