Not sure if we've ever posted one of these before, but here's a full editing timeline for a typical episode of Best of the Worst (this one specifically is from the new Xmas episode). As you can see, it's both a visual and literal nightmare.

Sweet! Thanks for this, guys.

How long does it take to get through it all? While it's necessary, how much do you look forward to doing it each time?

That's wild. I knew editing could be an involved process, but I didn't know something like a BotW episode was so complex.

Tim Fuglsang

Stop making valid and understandable excuses and give us more regular content! I'm craving that juicy Evans meat!

Anonymous

Oh noo!

Anonymous

That's pretty awful. It's great that you put so much effort into these, every "Best of the Worst" episode is so much fun to watch because of this.

Rudolf Rohaczek

would love to see more behind the scenes from editing :)

Anonymous

God, it's giving me Avid flashbacks.

Anonymous

You can almost see when Rich's laughs clip the audio.

Jessica Lavers

Looks terrifying. Thanks for all the hard work you guys do to put out such excellent content for us!

Katie Kelley

Ugh. So many mics...

Anonymous

i'm getting a migraine just looking at this. bless y'all for doing this every day!

I've been learning Premiere for the last few months and looking at this makes me die a little on the inside. How many hours did it take to get to finished project?

Hamson

Thanks for sharing this. I know it's a lot of work but it really shows in the end result in comparison to most of what's on Youtube. I echo other users in wanting to see more things like this, I think in the past you guys have said that the way the "sausage is made" is boring, but I think that editing process is interesting.

John Kott

I'm an old, and when I went to Film School editing was sometimes razor blades and tape! May I ask what this this program is called? To see this process is very inspiring!

Anonymous

Good to see my $5.00 hard at work!

Joshua Mannix

Mike/Jay, which is your favorite show to edit?

Anonymous

That looks insane! How long does it take to edit something like that?

Anonymous

How do you guys decide who edits which video? Do you take turns? Draw straws? Spin a wheel?

Anonymous

What exactly is going on in that picture?

Anonymous

I figured you’d use Final Cut with the angles feature to edit these! I love how much effort goes into making these episodes entertaining and interesting. Even if the movies are awful in any sense of the word.

Video editing and mixing/mastering music... man, those are pure love and hate relationships. Usually you take a deep breath before starting, get into it with a heavy heart and after hours, just when you start feeling exhausted, that's when it all clicks and you just go berserk until it's done. By the way, thank you as always for all your great content. Happy Holydays, you fuckers!

Katy

Fascinating. What’s a good resource to understand what the hell I’m looking at?

Anonymous

Hi Katy. This is an Adobe Premiere Pro timeline. Each rectangle you're seeing represents either a video clip, audio clip, or graphic. Going from left to right, you can see how complex an episode of BofW is with their multiple camera angles, movie clips, graphics, and sound.

Anonymous

Man, I've wanted to see what one of your timelines looked like forever. It's pretty much what I imagined. With complex projects like this does Premiere crash on you often?! Nice work... and awesome episode!

Anonymous

Also... today happens to be GARBAGE DAY!

Anonymous

This is awesome! You all put so much work into your videos and it really shows. Thanks for sharing! I'll echo others and say I'd love to see more like this. Watching the "sausage" get made is so fascinating.

Anonymous

Very interesting. I can tell that you guys put work into your productions, but it's neat to see the work that goes into producing it.

Anonymous

That is absolutely fascinating!

Marvin Falz

Wow, I would love to study this timeline.

Royal-Robinson

THIS IS GREAT! Do you guys using use a standard color coding system (blue for your footage and Caribbean Green for the movie footage)? How often do your system crash? These projects look HEAVY! :P

Kendel Fargo

It’s....it’s full of stars!

Dan Port

THAT'S stayin in!

Matthew O

Very interesting. Please keep posting production stuff -- it's fascinating.

Amazing work! I can't imagine how much time and labor go into these projects, but I'm so thankful you do it. . Great work, Jay, on this past episode... it was was crafted and hilarious!

Anonymous

This looks nuts! Would love a video on how you guys go from the raw footage to finished product.

Anonymous

No clue how you guys keep track of it all, but you do a killer job. Its always interesting to see the more technical side of whatcha do

Anonymous

I was learning to edit on stupid youtube videos we made and it was a nightmare, but exciting when you were finally done and created something. What you all do is on another level though and that looks like a horrible hell to do lol.

Erick Kwon

I would love to see a full making-of/BTS of a typical episode from start to finish, like transferring a VHS or DVD to digital for footage, shooting the sitdown, etc.

Anonymous

Damn, why don’t you nest when you’re editing? (Not an accusation, genuinely curious)

Anonymous

Do you guys plan your more humorous edits in advance or just goof around with the timeline until you strike gold?

Anonymous

JESUS CHRIST! -I mean- VEEERY COOL

Anonymous

But it's just You talking...

Sarah Low

We stan kings who use multicamming!

William Sircin

I think I need to get my eyes checked

Sarah Low

it looks like they might; I can see 3-4 vid tracks, and nesting doesn't include a wavform on its parent timeline

Anonymous

This gave me anxiety....

Anonymous

dont review or even acknowledge rise of skywalker for like 3 weeks. see how unhinged your fanbase can get! itll be fun!

Anonymous

So glad I'm a colourist so I'd only have to deal with the video layers.

Anonymous

It's so dense. Every single second has so many things going on

DJ PaulyT

Thank you for your service Jay

Anonymous

Wow. I've used Premier to make simple things, but this is insanity! You guys really are masters of your craft!

Anonymous

This gives me a migraine
