Recommendations on the Hollywood topic: 1) A documentary on Netflix titled 27: Gone Too Soon, about the 5 music idols who died at age 27. Really shows that the music business exploits men and women alike, but the main focus is on how the psychologically frail, usually traumatized during childhood and probably highly sensitive musicians get totally destroyed by the business mechanism. As far as I can tell as an outsider, the documentary is balanced, it shows both sides, it doesn't go into the usual 'good vs bad' modus. I guess the lesson is, if you want to stay in big business you just can't afford to be psychologically weak, you have to look after yourself, be part of a really good circle of friends where you look after each other, and keep an eye on your personal boundaries. 2) Lions Love from 1969, which shows 3 attention-seeking hippy-type artist/actor persons in a polyamorous relationship who want to be big Hollywood stars. They spend most of the movie naked and in bed, talking about stuff. The one bit that stayed in my mind, is when one of the guys turns around to the camera and tells the viewers that they (the artists/actors ) are stars and the viewer is not a star, and he says it like a child.

I'm glad to hear there is a better cut of the film out there now and that people are enjoying it. Some of my favorite films include Mulholland Drive, The Big Lebowski and Inherent Vice, so this should have been right up my alley but it did not work for me. Too ridiculous without ever being funny; as a crime thriller, it lacked thrills; as a character study, it lacked interesting or relatable characters. It was so underwhelming and the characters were so superficial, I found myself somewhat irritated by it all. Maybe I'll give it another watch in the future.

I didn't like it at all, but I thought it was worth watching because it's so different than anything that's been out recently. Still don't get the whole Owl woman subplot.

They won't talk about Detective Pikachu but they spent 30 minutes talking about a movie that has Nintendo Power Magazine as a huge plot point. Pikachu is intellectual property of Nintendo! WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?!!?!?!?

Did the same, on Amazon. Then came back here to continue watching the video and they talk about the aspect ratio. Thought I'd somehow sat through over two hours without noticing, but no - on Prime in the UK the aspect ratio is just fine.

Loved the film, felt like a dream told in a wonderfully well constructed way. The continuously evolving plot threads that don't so much lead from one to another as take a sharp turn just when they're seeming to settle into something normal perfectly follows those vivid dreams I sometimes have with plot and narrative but no fixed logic. The sequence that most fully captures that for me was a bit over half way through. One minute you're in a party, talking to a girl, then you're walking with her past a hobo who threatens to shit in your mouth, then you're trespassing in a reservoir to have sex, but then it's a ploy to hand you a clue, then you're attacked by unseen gunmen, before finally finding your way back to your bed. The flow, artistry and vision was perfect, and being unencumbered by logic just allowed it to drag you along with it.

I thought it was cool that Silversun Pickups were the band that sang Jesus and The Brides of Dracula's song when they were performing at the party at The Standard. Also thought it was silly that they kept Garfield's character in spiderman colors for a majority of the movie.

Damn. Wifey and I watched this movie after seeing this review, and it was one of the best films i've seen in a long time. Definitely adding this to our small blu ray collection. Thanks for the tip guys.

I liked the uniqueness of the film but wasn’t my flavor when I saw it a few weeks ago, I might go see it again but think it was def a step down from it follows
