Mr. Plinkett's Ghostbusters (2016) Review

Who ya gonna call? Why everyone's favorite curmudgeon, Harry S. Plinkett! He's back to breakdown what went so terribly wrong with Ghostbusters (2016) and why it SUCKS so HARD.

Is “stop dancing” replacing “Tums™ Festival?”

Davben

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a bigger flame war than the Rogue One review. This was a really fun video.

Excellent trashing of some not-so-excellent trash!

Great review. I do have a question, though - I noticed you guys -- err, Mr. Plinkett -- didn't mention the bizarre use of 3D-ish effects in the clips of the film, where the effects pass over the letterbox "black bars." Like, was this filmed in a longer aspect ratio just so they could throw 3D effects over the black bars? In the theater where I imagine glasses 3D was implemented, did it happen there too? What do you guys think about it? Seems weird to me. Is Letterbox Matte 3D replacing Stereoscopic 3D? Is Mr. Plinkett replacing etc, etc? Thanks, Hack Frauds.

What I respect the most is the number of times you guys actually had to re-watch the movie in editing (either in part or whole) to get this review made. You're better men than I am, Gunga Din.

Best Plinkett review since the prequels. And I say that as an enormous ST nerd who loved the evisceration of the Next Gen movies.

Be waned: this was simply a long critique with Mike doing the Plinkett voice. It is not an actual Plinkett review.

This was pretty brutal. It reminded me of when Mr Plinkett compared one of the Prequels to Citizen Kane in those reviews, which was acknowledged as totally unfair. This time though, while it was at least as brutal, the people who made the movie brought it upon themselves by remaking an essentially perfect movie.

Because all the other Plinkett reviews aren't long critiques done in the Plinkett voice?

Please do more reedits of scenes. The part in the subway tunnel irritated me but the way you guys edited it without the annoying chatter made it SO much better.

Oddly enough I normally watch your videos on my SONY Playstation 3, but yesterday discovered that SONY has put some kind of anti-piracy (or anti-Plinkett!!??) software on the system, and when I got to the Ed Begley Jr re-edit scene I was told I did not have the license to watch this SONY film, and the sound was muted out. Fuck you SONY!!! (I was eventually able to watch the rest on my laptop) great review!

This was hands down the best part of the video. The crew should do these types of edits for other terrible films.

I don't think Bill Murray is wrong to say "these girls are funny". All of them are. If it was a better written and directed film I think they would have made for a great new Ghostbusters cast.

I didn't experience the same catharsis from this Plinkett review as say the Star Wars prequels. Probably because we all needed group therapy after the prequels but with Ghostbusters it was just so obvious why it was bad that having Plinkett review it just felt like punching below your weight. Next up: Plinkett reviews an Adam Sandler movie!

Brilliant review. Thanks for all your hard work guys.

See, I disagree based on the idea "their sin was so great, no punishment is too much" type of thing. Certain movies should be kinda untouchable and anyone who loves movies should know that and vaguely what they are. As Mr Plinkett said, "lightning in a bottle". I don't make movies but I know enough to see something and say "yeah, recreating that isn't reasonable. let it be and love it for what it is." the idea that someone who works in the industry would be willing to try it is worthy of all the scorn we can heap on them.

Anonymous

It wasn't the words, but the context. He said he agreed to do the movie because "these girls are funny". That's not the case, he did the movie because they forced him to.

What I loved about this review is that Plinkett made it clear. ALL the stuff was there for a decent movie, four good and talented comedians, a fun idea, plenty of nostalgia....the direction and writing (or lack their of) fucked it ALL up.

Anonymous

Yeah I was wondering about that to - I never saw this movie - so I wasn't aware that was a feature of it

Also Jack deserves some special recognition for his portrayal of Paul Feig

I watched this a few days ago but I just wanna say thank you for really getting into why the writing on this movie was so awful. It's not just this film too, that line-o-rama improv crap has ruined so many comedies because it's easier than just having a solid script.

I wanted to see more of that! Jack's acting chops aren't utilized enough.
