Ash and Jon sit down and talk through Joshua Oppenheimer's The Act of Killing.

This is our first documentary. Let us know if you would like to see more innovative definitions of horror / gothic cinema in future episodes. (Namely, more documentaries.)

This one gets tough in spots. We suggest familiarizing yourself with the documentary and its subject matter before jumping into this episode. We're both going to be processing this experience for a while yet.

Special thanks to Kris Nivens who helped us with this episode. Kris is a fantasy author and you can find his work on his patron page:  Patreon.com/TDOTWS  & get in touch with him on his Twitter: @KristoferNivens.

A double feature of this and the Generation Loss episode on the same movie accompanied by a showing of the film itself (also, please do more episodes with Gen Loss, it’s a match made in Heaven). I’m a Patron for both of you, this is me voting with my wallet

This episode gave me chills. ‘The Jakarta Method’ absolutely stunned me when I read it last year, so to hear you discuss this film was very rewarding (uncomfortable?) I wonder about other documentaries that might be classified as ‘horror’ or horror hidden in documentary. Whenever someone says Herzog, I immediately think of ‘Grizzly Man.’ I wonder if that might also count as a (semi) horror film hidden inside a documentary.
