I don’t speak Japanese, so I wonder if the word “Fido” was in the original manga rather than just the translation. Would seem an odd word for them to use (for us, Fido means loyal, but it could have no corresponding meaning in Japanese). So I wonder if maybe the actual word used in Japanese was something different, so they’ve translated here with the more generic “dog”. Just speculation on my part.
