Just for clarity if they state a certain number of knock downs to win that is contained within a single round. 3 knockdowns in a round is a win. Also even though your opponent might be conscious it's still considered a Knockout if you fail to take a fighting position by the 10 count. This show rules and thanks for the triple episode upload.

The scene where the coach looks like he is pushing down on Ippo’s head and Ippo is upside down is meant to strengthen is neck muscles, I believe. To help withstand punches better.

In the scene where Ippo "used his head" to block the punch, he actually did. By closing into Miyata he didn't allow the arm to fully extend and therefore halving the punch's strength. Edit: nvm, they explain it immediately afterwards XD
