How many of you all think the situation involving reactors now is as big as Youtube is making it? Also what are your guy's thoughts about going further. I just want to make the best content for you all but just not jeopardizing myself. Hope everyone is having a FANTABULOUS MONDAY!

In my experience nothing is ever as big of a deal as YouTube makes it, but probably better safe than sorry until things have shaken out.

It will be a big deal only if the anime companies will get Suzy Lu to court. Until then, not so much. After all, Suzy Lu got targeted simply because she was stupid enough to mess with the community.

After getting caught up on the situation I would say yes, it is a big deal. Cause right now the situation could go in many ways. It feels like it's in the period where everyone is sitting here holding their breath, waiting for a response from all the companies and Youtube. So it might not feel as big of a deal. Cause nothing is happening. But once it does, knowing how Youtube has reacted before, it will become a big deal. And a lot of people will become affected by this. Big thanks to Florin for updating me on this situation.

I believe it is somewhat a big deal, main reason I think it has spiraled out of control is because of this particular YouTuber who does not needs to be named. If she had handled this better and not ultimately lash out and pick fights with individuals linked with the anime community then I believe things would have been better. I don't know how it will affect other reactors but I do see this becoming a case where the good will suffer with the bad. So I think you should prepare yourself. For going further, continue doing what you are doing. You are already delivering the content the way it should be delivered.

Right now, I'm waiting on a bit longer to see if anything big happens that will impact the Reaction YouTube community. For now It depends on you.

To be fair I understand where the fair use stuff is coming from especially after that voice actress shed more light onto the issue. The thing is the community of youtube themselves are the ones who forced this situation to be bigger than ever when they began contacting anime companies and such about the channel they were targeting and about her patreon. I saw a comment as well on the voice actress’s video that had a good amount of likes that no one really cared about people reacting to anime and whether it was fair use or not, people just wanted to take off that certain channel off of every place that she could upload on which in turn caused the rest of the reactors to take the hit as well and to be put on the spotlight. But like I said I do understand where this voice actress was coming from and it is important to give more insight on why those companies might feel this way about fair use and whatnot.

I actually lack information to have a proper opinion about this. You should probably have your mods watch other reactors for a bit and then act accordingly.

In some ways It is kind of a big deal. If you were in a situation where someone else got paid for your work, I'd think you'd be annoyed with it. With that as a base I understand why it's blown up, but at the same time I think a lot of it stemmed from how suzy handled the situation, and as we know... people love to have someone or thing to hate.... That part got blown up to much in my opinion, but as long as you don't show a lot of the episode and sticks with timed R you're in the clear!

It's quite a big deal only for the fact that Suzy Lu is petty and will most likely try to bring other people down with her. It wouldn't have been this serious if she accepted her wrongdoing instead of attacking people. Plus since she could potentially be facing a lawsuit and if it goes to court, patreon will definitely get involved and will end up changing their terms and conditions. Personally I recommend doing what your comfortable and happy doing

When it comes to YouTube, anime reactors can make it fair use and not be affected even though it becomes commercial once they make money off the anime. Pateron is where most reactors specially anime reactors is where they have a high chance of getting their pateron removed if the companies want to do it because most of them react to the whole episode and it is behind a paywall so Pateron won't see it as fair use.

Play it safe. No need to jeopardize your channel. It may make your channel suffer in the short term; but you’ll adapt and find a better way as you go. Don’t ignore the outside noise cuz what’s happening will eventually have a ripple effect.

I don't think anyone knows right now how big of a deal it will be until it plays out so I will just say it COULD become a big deal. Nobody ever takes things seriously because usually things don't go as far as they can. But then in some cases they do and then we have things like the adpocalype

I think there will be some bias here as people want the video in the reaction. It's not their channel so it's easier for them to brush it off as not a big deal. Tbh I don't think anyone can really say how big of a deal it is atm. I think you should play it safe for a couple of weeks and see how things play out.

I would eyeball it because as we've seen before companies and platforms will overreact and the main ppl who will suffer are those who don't try to game the system and are the least problematic. If I were you, I'd go with my gut instinct while looking for some type of transition while staying in pocket if that makes sense. That way if they do come for you they won't really have a case because you're not only doing reactions.

They mainly went after Suzy because of how hypocritical she was flagging other videos talking about her for copyright because she couldn’t handle some criticism or jabs. Being a public figure is the wrong path for her if she’s that fragile

It sounds like it’s being blown way out of proportion. I think that, if they are taking action against people that are not following the fair use guidelines, then it’s not going to matter too much to them to start taking down other reaction videos that ARE fair use just to be safe. There are plenty of videos that are being taking down and they are actually following said guidelines. With that said, I am NOT a reactor nor do I claim to be an expert in the situation, so the only thing that I can say is that you do whatever you feel you need to do. This is your channel and you need to do what’s best to keep it going.

hey Allona Ths is From another reactor who i follow.. please read it : Tonight, Nitxua (one of my mods) told me that they had combed through Patreon's Terms of Use and the results are (what I consider) VERY GOOD NEWS!! See their message to me below: "As I read it the copyright holder must claim their copyright on EACH POST SPECIFICALLY, and if Patreon deems their claim valid the creator has 48 hours to remove the claimed posts, else Patreon will delete the posts themselves. They will only remove the page completely if the verified copyright holder is claiming every post on your page. No matter what the situation you will be guaranteed a 48 hour window to make your page compliant no matter the complaint. In that case you can also file a counter notification. The moment you file a counter notification your page is immediately considered compliant, and the onus is on the original sender of the complaint to file a lawsuit through the federal courts." The most important part of this is that even if Funimation or anyone else were unhappy with my content, they'd have to file a complaint first, and I'd get 48h to take it down. Obviously I wouldn't fight it or anything like that - which is basically what happens on YouTube, too. I can post what I want, and if anyone is unhappy, it just needs to be taken down. I was very worried the repercussions could be a lot worse and that my Patreon could immediately be terminated. This does not seem to be the case - so I can go back to posting like I used to. I thought we'd need at least 2 or 3 weeks to see how the drama plays out, but thanks to Nitxua I feel a lot more at ease

Allona you should be asking other reactors this and not your fans, a lot of your fans just want best quality of viewing and the vast majority of us won't know the extent of what's going on behind the scenes as far as that shit goes anyways. Even if 90% want the full video shown just take w.e. measures you need to.

Neither of these poll options say anything without necessary context. I would argue "Yes, it is a big deal, but only because it concerns your livelihood" and I could also argue "It isn't a big deal, just adapt the changes and stop exageratig about it." Both of these say the same thing. Reactions have ALWAYS been iffy concerning fair use. People just don't like it that some of their favourite content is being changed, and creators don't want to lose their fanbase. If I may give this recommendation, watch Tom Scott's video on YouTube titled "YouTube's copyright system isn't broken. The world's is". It's excelent and very applicable for the current situation.

I personally like it with the video. So trust I really understand where everyone is coming from. From just hearing some of the kickback on how reactors that show uncut are thieves doesn't sit right with me. I never thought about it like that.

Yea I read this and though I get it. Patreon also has this in their terms of service. If they get enough kickback they can definitely just shut everything down if they feel like it. Especially if those who are reaching out are big named companies

Suzy Lu should have just apologized for the mistake that she made. Now that she still hasn't it makes it worse for other reactors. If she goes down, than she is most likely going to take down other reactors.

I would say this is still a big enough matter for you to be concerned over since the studios themselves have been made aware of it as well as Youtube and Patreon. Youtube could decide to make a new bot to search for it or simply get rid of reaction channels all together or just do nothing. Spend a bit of time to research fair use and copyright law and take whatever steps you need to do so that you can personally say that you are staying within fair use guidelines if anything happens. Even if you aren't 100% within the guidelines, it is important that you know the rules and can defend criticism about whatever your videos do show without saying something along the lines of "I didn't know that was a problem". When I went to college for my degree in art, we spent over an hour in most of my classes every year on the matter of copyright. You don't have to be at the same level as a lawyer specializing in the matter, but anyone creating things should know copyright law fairly well. Is the issue being over-hyped? Definitely. Is it still potentially a serious problem for your channel and financial security if they decide to target you? Absolutely. Don't take it too lightly. This has always been a bit of a gray area because you are supporting the content creator by watching their videos legally (I'm assuming) and your videos have low audio, even in the unedited versions, so it is clearly not intended to substitute or take profit out of their pockets. It is similar to fan art in the sense that it is something that brings the most enjoyment to people who are already fans and supporters of the original content. In a sense, it is no different than having your friend over while you watch who is only half paying attention to the show because they are more interested in seeing how you react to it. You are just doing it on a larger scale. Towards that point you can argue that you are selling a service instead of the original product and the copyright holder does not offer that service. The next big issue to tackle starts to come in because you are getting paid for it without providing any compensation to the original creator...but it isn't hard to argue that you are being paid for the unique personality that you bring to the content. Most people only support a handful of creators and do so because they enjoy the creators reactions and personality to numerous shows, not one specific show that they are watching. As for whether the material is transformative enough to qualify as fair use, that has always been questionable and the opacity of the video, editing or audio volume has never really been the biggest issue there. The biggest question is whether your work uses as little of their work as is necessary to make something that is new, different and unique to you. While I personally think it does for the most part, that may prove to be the toughest part to argue and some people will never see it as anything other than theft...especially when they can argue that you could use less of their work by way of edited videos, layer masks or timers. This is the biggest area that you need to work on protecting yourself from and it is why I would recommend timers since it is the method that utilizes none of their work and focuses entirely on your addition to the work. Hope this info helps you to figure out what is best for you personally Allona.

I know these studios put A LOT of work into the anime I'm watching and I don't want to feel as if I'm cheating them. Although I do feel as though most of the ppl have already watched the show's I'm reacting to and just want to see how I'll react or feel about a particular scene.

The best thing to be done for me would be to stick to your old reaction videos as nothing would change I am sure about it. I have seen most of the reactors doing full reactions like nothing happened, but after all it is your patreon and you know the best. Keep doing what you do 💙

I’m just now catching up to what’s going on, but it’s very unfortunate. I say that because I know that you react through out the whole episode making editing a bigger chore. My suggestion would be to include edited reactions and an uncut reaction without the show and some sort of timer. That’s been my experience with Imon Snow and I’ve been more than happy with the content.
