Although I do not find anything romantic about this episode..lol I did have fun watching. Looking at Garp being a pirate was hilarious. Especially when my gullible self was about to fall for it. smh lol I am still unclear of what dudes actual DF power was, but wasn't he a bit creepy to look at though? He reminded me of those clown dolls in antique shops..lol

This episode is pretty interesting since this is what Oda had in mind when he was first developing One Piece. This concept is pretty interesting but idk how far the series would have gotten with this setup.

I know they did that anime OVA back in the day with the first version Romance Dawn (except it had the other straw hats) but I think it would be cool to readapt that version as well (rather than a blue hair Nami it has yellow hair one and Shanks is in that one too). I wouldn't mind if they did the Monsters one with the samurai Ryuma (pretty much was Oda's first concept of Zoro).

In this proto-type version of One Piece, sorcery and magic were real, and existed alongside Devil Fruits. This villain Spiel (voiced by Brook's voice actor) is using actual magic unrelated to Devil Fruits. The heroine is a blue-haired Nami, Luffy doesn't have his scar, and Garp is a pirate. But you can see how the pieces were there for the One Piece we all know (Gomu Gomu, stretchy Luffy, Strawhat).

Romance, in this case, has the meaning: “A prose narrative treating imaginary characters involved in events remote in time or place and usually heroic, adventurous, or mysterious.” Being english not my first language, I search in the internet the meaning because I was confusing thinking that has anything to do with love. But it has another meaning.

One Piece Chapter 1 is also titled "Romance Dawn -Bōken no Yoake(The Dawn of the Adventure)-".

It's a prototype of One Piece. In the past (about a year before the first chapter of One Piece) Oda made 3 stories each called "Romance Dawn" to see which one would work the best. This is the second version. The third version is the one that eventually became chapter 1 of One Piece. The Luffy in this story/episode is not the same Luffy as in the third Romance Dawn story/One Piece itself.

“Romance” as in the Allure of adventure, not intimate love, hence the name “Romance Dawn” meaning the dawn of adventure.
