Because it wasn't about him fighting and looking bad ass. "The Year of Sanji" was to complete Sanji's character and know more about him; to make him even more complex and ambiguous; to make him confront his moral codes; to make us understand his chivarly and admiration towards women; to make us appreciate his big heart; focusing as well more in his passion as a cook, etc. Sanji is way more than just a fighter and Oda knows that, obviously. That was Oda's intent since the start. If you want to improve your characters you can't do it just through meaningless action.

I've never watched this part of the anime and am so surprised at how fast the pacing is. It really puts everything into perspective how we just get frustrated because we read the manga on a weekly basis. I realized the pacing was amazing.

By the way, I think Sanji not being able to light his cigarrete with his lighter, besides the fact that he wasn't able 'cause it was raining, it was as well to symbolize that his only light of hope was extinct, which was of course Pudding... Him trying his best to light it was a channel to distract himself from his impotence and sadness. These are the kind of moments that make a character more interesting in my opinion. intimate moments where a character is full door open for us to see how they really feel. It's crazy how even in the distance, once again, the only one who was feeling Sanji's pain was Luffy, It's so well written and showcased... :( I loved the reaction video! Keep it up Allona!

I felt truly bad for Sanji... He thought the only light to his depression was her, to watch how he got to hear all of that from someone who was trying to love and be 100% sincere with... just to bash him at the end. That shit destroyed me... Sanji is too good of a person and that's why he suffers a lot. Heartbroken to the max :( This is a really important experience that Oda wanted to give to Sanji, to give him maybe a different perspective about women. I have to say as well that Sanji is a really strong guy, not only phisical but emotionally too, for him to be able to keep to himself all these hardships that he had through his life. If It was me I would explode...

Yea.. That ws way too cruel. It made me want to yank her through the screen. Me seeing him cry made me sad but more so angry because watching this arc so far has made me feel really protective over him. And it pisses me off how Pudding basically just spit in his face. Trifling heffa🐄.

I love Oda's writing, he exposed to us this whole context towards why he loves women through his background with his mother, sister and Zeff teachings, for us to feel truly bad and understand Sanji. He finally was about to find hapiness with a woman only to make him confront a harsh reality about how some women could be, but for him to still endure it crying alone out in the balcony without making a noise... Because let's be honest, a lot of men in his position would have snapped and tried to even hurt Pudding. It just shows that he can't overcome his big heart, his mother's love and Zeff's guidence and as a result you have that overwhelming sad face from him... :(

I can see how you got incredibly overprotective with him through this arc, you get really mad everytime you see him destroyed emotionally like If you were his mother. I find that being very sweet, LOL :) I think the line that really got stuck with Sanji and really hurted him the most from Pudding was: "Who's gonna marry a damn "FAILURE" like him?!" becuase of his past with his family.

That was a great and a sad moment at the same time for Sanji's character. I feel like episode 817 is one of the most well directed ones in One Piece, It was so well executed, the choice music was incredible and finally the ambientation and drawings were really good.

And a lot of people can relate to that moment. You know when things are just not working out for you? You're trying so hard to be positive and hold on, trying not to break down. Then one simple thing happens. Maybe your sibling teased you, something trivial. I almost broke down after the cashier told me the shaved ice flavor I wanted is not available. It was a really hard day at work and it was my birthday. I almost cried in front of the lady. It was trivial but I was at the end of my patience. In this case, this is when Sanji broke down. Even a damn cigarette won't light up. I'd cry too.

I don't think Reiju and the other brothers have ever been seriously hurt before or even seen their own blood due to their metal enhanced bodies. Getting shot is a Big shock to her body, probably why she's just sitting there letting pudding bad mouth Sanji (and she's losing blood). I Doubt she would let pudding act up like this any other day!!

Your face when you saw pudding's third eye was priceless! I was a little suspicious when she was first introduced mainly because she was a Charlotte. But once I finally started to accept her, she now shows her true colors. 😭😭 And just like you said about Sanji, He's been through SO MUCH S**T. After watching Whole Cake Island arc, My respect for sanji has grown so much. Like I've always liked him since the beginning. But after rewatching his backstory a few times, my view of him has changed completely. And don't underestimate Brook. As the arc progresses, you'll see why. But overall, I enjoyed your reactions to episodes 813-817 Allona! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing your reaction to the next set of episodes!! 😁
