I drew the cast of The Land Before Time, slightly more accurate! The original designs aren't half bad, because most of the creatures they picked are pretty tough to mess up, but here are the main edits:

Ducky-- at her size, she wouldn't have grown a crest yet, and Parasaurolophus wasn't bipedal, so she'd be on all fours most of the time.

Petri-- wouldn't have had a crest yet and would have been covered in hairlike pycnofibres.

Spike-- for the longest time I had no idea what Spike was supposed to be, but apparently he's a Stegosaurus, which explains why he is the Dumb One. Stegosaurus had the smallest brain-to-body ratio of any dinosaur. He would have already had some plate growth at his size, and even a wittle Thagomizer (the spikes at the end of the tail, named for a Gary Larsson cartoon!)

That baby T rex from the 2nd movie-- would have been covered in a coat of protofeathers. Regardless of how fluffy the adults may or may not have been, the babies would benefit from some insulation.

Littlefoot and Cera-- they're basically fine.

And of course, if we're being ENTIRELY accurate-- Littlefoot and Spike were both around in the late Jurassic and lived in the same region, so they could've been pals. But Ducky, that T rex, and Cera lived about 78 million years later, and Ducky may have died out a few million years before meeting Cera or the T rex (though I put them on the same page in my book because look, you can only be so accurate while trying to tell everyone about every cool dinosaur). And Petri would have lived a full 12 million years before Ducky and Cera and the T rex, and would have spent most of his life at sea, eatin fish.

Anyway, so that's that!! I know some folks really don't like these pedantic "let's pick apart a piece of children's media" things but they are very fun to do. I definitely don't fault Land Before Time for most of these fixes, considering when it was made, but it's still a fun exercise!

*pushes glasses all the way up nose and through back of head* um excuse me Abby her name is spelled "Cera" as in triceratops do you know how long it took me to get that reference because damn.

also I didn't realize until like right now that Ducky was supposed to be a parasaurolophus, I could never figure that one out!!!

Well hold on I may have taken it for granted, I looked it up just now and it says on her character page "Saurolophus-- disputed". We may never know the answer to this mystery.... but either way she probably wouldn't have had a crest yet, I'm STICKIN BY IT

The post has been edited in your honor, RIP Kory, too pedantic to live.

Listen it was a really important moment in my life when I realized Cera was spelled Cera because she's a triceratops okay it BLEW my MIND.
