i made games for global game jam last weekend! there are a bunch so i'm going to introduce them one by one.

---

OKUTAMA STATION 3 (browser & windows .exe):

this one i wasn't actually planning on making but i had extra time so i made a point-and-click adventure on my own in between working on other stuff! the music is by sdhizumi as usual - and the music was made in just 7 minutes! (the rest of the game took longer haha)

i wanted to try making a very personal game in that i'm not planning on uploading it on itch or anything - it's just an adventure game based on the location i did the jam in (okutama). i got comments from the jam site organiser as well as my fellow jam teammates & put them in the guestbook inside the game!

ROOTILE (pdf as it's a physical print-and-play game):

this was made in a team of four! i was in charge of the art & we all worked together to adjust the gameplay, though logy games (a tile board game maker) came up with the original concept & rules.

i really liked the opportunity to work on an actual physical protoype since doing digital stuff i don't usually get to play around like this. it was so easy changing rules on the fly since all we had to do was make it happen in our heads without actually programming game logic as such.

one other cool thing about physical games is that you can't really have 'bugs' in the same way you do with digital ones - like we never ran into any random compiling issues or concerns that the game might run in one environment but not another! in that sense i feel like physical games might actually be a super good fit for short game jams since all you need to do is come up with rules & then make the printable pieces.

Die-con Run (the build is not uploaded yet...! but it should be playable on pc)

so for this game i actually only designed the logo & helped with a very very little bit of the art! i had a lot of fun coming up with a silly logo for it though so i'm happy i got to participate (:

also it was personally very cool for me since the music was done by tsukasa masuko (not yet on the jam page though) whose work i have a lot of respect for!

---

going in i was actually really nervous since it was the first time i'd ever be joining a jam in-person - up until now i've only participated in stuff online and usually with friends too, if not by myself.

this time the teams were drawn at random so i was paired up with people i'd never met before, but i actually had a really great time! i'm really thankful to the organiser (hamada of GIFT TEN INDUSTRY) for setting up this whole event & i'd definitely like to participate again.

OKUTAMA STATION 3 is really nice and sweet!!! I think the BGM is really perfect for the short and simple little experience here. And it's enjoyable for its runtime!!! A nice, quick, comfy little game. Dunno if I'll ever really get to try out ROOTILE myself, but... it seems, really interesting for sure!! Kinda like a spin on... connect four? Maybe that's not too apt, but that's what came to mind first, pff. Presumably, placing tiles further down to plan out for future roots is a thing.... BUT THEN SLIDING AND ROTATING CAN RUIN SUCH PLANS... It seems like a fun game to play, for sure!!! AND DIE-CON ISN'T UPLOADED YET, BUT... definitely gonna give that a try once it's available!!! The logo does look pretty fun though yes, pff. Overall, sounds like a fresh experience, for sure!!! The photos you uploaded on Twitter seem super comfy, too.... Must've been super cool to experience, AN IN-PERSON GAME JAM!!! WITH STRANGERS, NO LESS!!! (Perhaps not strangers anymore, though!!!) Glad it went well!!!

i definitely enjoyed the experience a lot! it helped that the jam site was fairly small compared to others (only 20 people) so it wasn't overwhelming (: die-con run is being revised a bit right now but should be uploaded soon enough

I loved OKUTAMA STATION 3!! It's so nice to see an escape room kind of game with a more lighhearted style (since most of the ones I played follow a more dark, even horror-y, path). It still has a little magical feel to it that makes it mysterious, but it's still very cozy. I would certainly love to see more of this!!

thanks! it's funny because i actually came up with the idea for this because a teammate joked that our site was like a horror game escape room 😂
