January Poll 03: Do you want subtitles in future animated works??
- I want subtitles 53
- I do not want subtitles 20
- I would like the option of having a subtitled and non-subtitled version 220
Hello Patrons! It's time for another poll.
A common request for my animated works is the addition of subtitles. I have been in the belief that subtitles were only necessary for foreign language interpretation. English subtitles for English language animation seems a bit redundant, but it can be more helpful for the hearing impaired. But also adding subtitles interferes with the visual aesthetic of the animated work.
We have seen an example of subtitles in Romantic Weekend, which is a Japanese language animation. There were two versions, one with no subtitles, and one with subtitles. I think adding subtitles to future projects could be relatively easy. But it is a bit harder for previous animation, as I am not quite set up for that. I might have to hire a subtitlist, so I will need to see if it is even feasible. Depending on the results of this poll, I might even look into subtitling past work.
What do you think? Should I add subtitles to all future animations? Choose one option. If you have any thoughts on this, please comment. The poll closes on January 24, at midnight.
