If you are not with a person in a specific moment, and you're looking at a picture, or a movie, you are separated from reality by various layers of glass.
Mainly the lens (which should have as few elements as possible), but also a window glass, like in this image of Cristiana.
Glass is a way of isolating somebody from us, as if he was a prisoner living in a glass house and, at the same time, glass is capable of unleashing the soul of your subject, provided you are working well enough.

This is the magic of photography, to reveal a soul through various layers of glass.
