**BUILDING HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

I LOVE the character of Wentzel and the development and mystery we're getting with her! There's some interesting contradictions, things to consider, and compare/contrast with San Magnolia and the Federation that weigh on the story and the characters as we move forward into the season's climax! LET'S GO!

From my viewpoint and knowledge, I wanted to toss out a different interpretation of the discussion between Wenzel and Richard where he said he kept them separate to hide how truly strong they were. The line he used later that had "sharp knife...use it till it breaks" is a key line. Another interpretation is that It shows that his decision was more about protecting the 86 then protecting Giad. Together, Richard knows that they would be considered an elite force. Militaries, and history is strewn with examples of this, give their elite units the most dangerous missions with the highest casualty rates. By keeping them separate (from a military viewpoint), it would hinder the high command from seeing how effective they could together as a full unit. We see that in the show. Shortly after they are reunited they ended up getting assigned an 'impossible' task. Also, it could explain why Wenzel is talking calmly to Richard unlike when she was angry in early episodes at others. She knows him and knows he was trying to protect them in a small way. I am not saying that you could not be right in what you said, but wanted to put out an alternative based on things I know regarding how militaries work. A last thought, I was thinking about your talk of how small units pulling off the impossible is just the realm of fantasy (especially the surviving part of it). The keep getting missions that involve penetrating enemy territory against an overwhelming force and destroy a singular target with the expectation of not surviving and still surviving. That kind of mission has been accomplished many times in history where a small, elite force pulls off an impossible military action. There is definite fantasy in surviving those kind of missions, but also a little truth as it has happened (all be it very rarely) in real history. Just a few thoughts there, and I hope you don't take it as criticism or avid defense of the show (I know it has its flaws), I am just trying to share what I know about military history since its one of the few knowledge areas I can claim any expertise in lol.

I do love that line about a “sharp knife, use it until it breaks,” and I’m glad you include your insight here! Thank you! It is a little confusing to me, though, because - if the situation is dire enough…you know you’re going to need a squad to do this “impossible task” and eventually, he doesn’t stand up for them among the high command…so…it’s just delaying the inevitable that someone is going to have to face the Morpho, right? I can understand that Richard is maybe in his own way trying to protect them…but…it needs…more substance to it for me to have more impact, but I can see what you’re saying. And yes, if I didn’t talk about it this episode’s discussion, I will next week, that there have been small “elite” units carry out missions in real life. Granted, the missions weren’t against automated drones like this necessarily, but I “get” the tie-in…but I’ll have to talk about it more in Episode 20’s intro when I get to recording it. 🙂I appreciate you offering that response in it! I am not as familiar with military history, so it’s nice to get that perspective, too! :) Thanks so much for that and the comment!
