"Why is he perfect?" Hua Cheng: "I ask that every day." Jun Wu: "Why do you want to save the common people?" Xie Lian: *Throwing the extra AD episode into his face* "Here is why!" Love the image of common people in the story, the man in the extra was busy with work so he yelled at XL at first, then when XL helped him, he apologised immediately. This reminds me of both the street performer and the man who gave XL the bamboo hat. Both acted aggressively towards XL to protect their livelihood, but were still able to show kindness to him. I like that Lang Ying was removed. It kinda shocked me at first, but thinking back, it is the right call. He was kept around as a plot device for the most part. And I kept feeling bad that he was not paid attention to by XL enough in the original story, then he just died tragically! And he wanted to take revenge on him all along so he accepted BWX's deal? It could have had an impact if he played a more major role. So if MXTX felt she couldn't do that, removing him is the next best choice.

I love how the common people have all tied back around in this so well! :) And to see it from the start here! :) I agree about Lang Ying too -- I was REALLY surprised by this, but it does work that he's removed at this point and honestly, it has me interested into how MXTX will adapt at this point! Thank you for the comment and kind words!

Your jacket is giving me such Clueless vibes 🥰 Because it's all gossip of possible ways Hua Cheng became Crimson Rain Sought Flower, I feel they can get away with including about the possibility of him being a heavenly official that chose to become a ghost But I do think the audio drama should have included some more lines of dialogue to drive home that it's just a rumour. Your questioning of it made me go back to Volume 1 and see what was said about Hua Cheng in this moment. There is no dialogue for this scene, it's all given as just information to the reader, rather than Xie Lian being told it all by Ling Wen or the other Heavenly Officials [also none of this information is given in the donghua]. Volume 1 excerpt: And when it came to Hua Cheng's backstory, there were endless different versions. Some say he was born without a right eye and was bullied and humiliated for it since birth, so he was filled with hatred for the world. Some say he was a young soldier who died in a lost battle for his country and later came to walk the earth in resentment. Some say he was a fool who was tormented by the death of his love; some even say he was a monster. In the most outrageous version, supposedly - only supposedly! - Hua Cheng ascended and became a god but immediately jumped back down on his own and became a ghost. But that version wasn't widespread. No one knew if it was true or false, and not many believed it. It had to be false, though; even if it were true, it'd be a complete embarrassment for the heavens if someone ditched a heavenly official role to become a ghost. It shows Ling Wen isn't neutral when she says that Hua Cheng burning down the temples wasn't the worst thing that he did, and the worst thing being that he took the followers of those thirty-three gods...the heavenly officials were the ones that chose to have the match in the dreams of their followers. But the blame for the heavenly officials being embarrassed in front of their followers gets firmly placed at Hua Cheng's feet. The reason for the water chestnuts is that 'Puqi' means chestnut. Also I laughed at you singing Love Shack...going by the extras it sounds like that's what Puqi Shrine sometimes is. Apparently fresh water chestnuts are more sweet. I've only ever had the pre-sliced and cooked in a stir-fry kind 😅 I love how much the number three appears. It's an important number in Chinese numerology, I believe, because the number also means "life", and the link to three important stages in people's lives: birth, marriage, and death. And yes, just like in Japan, the number four has connotations of death in China (both because the pronunciation of one of the words for four sound the same as the word for death). Yes, Ju Yang is the wrong name for Feng Xin (the one that translates to being a d*ck joke). We saw a glimpse of Xie Lian collecting scraps in the donghua, but no dialogue moments. I feel like they added the speech for the audio drama to make it easier to understand what was happening. Bad San Lang, bad San Lang! That leaning and whisper in the ears...so flirtatious!!! The preview for the next episode, so deceptive: "You won't have a problem getting married" cut to "Want to come back to my place?" 🤣 "If I can help, I should" what better sentence to sum up Xie Lian's entire being 🥺 Also I love the 'Big sis' in the extra forcibly dragging him back to her house so as she can feed him. Xie Lian definitely needs someone to help him take care of himself, but the woman isn't as clued in to his ways as Hua Cheng and so doesn't know not to just leave him be. It is definitely a shock that Lang Ying got completely axed, more that it's an entire character removed from the story but also because, whilst he is an unimportant character, he does appear at a couple of key moments that really has you wondering how those moments will then occur without Lang Ying's presence. I will also say that when it was first announced (before complete fan translations were being done) that Lang Ying was no longer a character the entire fandom who were checking about the revised edition all went "Which one?" 🤣

Ooohhhh, I had never thought of it that way, but thank you! I will take that!! 😀 It’s just so funny to go back to volume 1, where SO many answers are right in front of us, and to see what we forget about as we go along with the story! That is really neat to show the subtle way that Ling Wen is a little biased in her evaluation of HC! Also…the Puqi Shrine is LITERALLY the Love Shack of this story! I’ve had water chestnuts in Americanized Chinese food here, and they’re pretty good, especially the stir fry version. Ahhh, that’s good to know about the number three! 🙂 And poor Feng Xin…he really is a “daddy” in this series, isn’t he? 😛 Also, Hua Cheng should NOT be allowed to whisper in our ears like that! That preview really makes you think things are ABOUT TO GO DOWN! The collecting scraps extra was so cute and sweet; I love that like the donghua expanding on XL and LQQ’s time together, we have this extra showing us more of XL being the scrap collector and helping like he always has. 🙂It’s so cute! And yessss, no Lang Ying anymore!! And yeah, I am VERY curious to see how the rest of the story is going to handle those moments, now! And AHAHAHA - “Which one” - NOW THAT would be very interesting to see how they’d change that! Hmmmm…I’m excited to see what more changes we get! Thanks for the kind words and comment! 😀
