**GOLDEN HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

We're starting the 2nd Deluxe Volume and the Golden Age Arc, y'all! And man, this volume has some manga-exclusive content that was definitely "too much" for the anime and I am FLOORED!

Lots of fun things to talk about as we go back into Guts' past and see the events of his childhood and adolescence that have shaped who he is in the present...

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

A mere Almond

We know for certain that Griffith does care about his comrades. Guts obviously. But everyone else too. When that boy died, he was feeling guilty about that. And when Casca asked him if he sold himself to Gennon because of the boy, Griffith denied it by saying "No. I came to the conclusion rationally". And then later in the river scene, Griffith says "I don't feel responsible for the comrades who die" but he was also scratching his own arms at the same time, showing that he does care about their deaths. And then there was the scene where he asks Guts "Do you think that I am cruel?" Also, the Godhand told the count that you can only sacrifice those you truly care about. So the fact that the Band of the Hawk all got branded is proof that he does care about them. Although Guts was the only one he cared about as a friend (or lover according to you 🙁😜😜) IMO, Griffith only cared about the Band of the Hawk as comrades and as his "legacy" / "achievements". But this ties in with how Guts was behaving at the start. Griffith was trying to suppress and hide his emotions of empathy, remorse, guilt, care etc. because those emotions would interfere with his dream. And Guts is now suppressing those same emotions as well because Guts feels like they will hinder what ever he is trying to do.

I think you should stick with your setup. It's basically as good as normal page spread at this point. It's not like changing to scans will make big of a change on other aspects of setup that have to be installed to stay respectful. Having a physical copy is always cool, I'd hate if you had to give it away without good reason. I remember way back when you were bringing up the question about Guts's awareness of Griffith romantic feelings to him for the first time. It was hard to hold laugh remembering "Are you" line. Granted like you said it still begs a question of awareness, knowing sexuality exist is bare minimum but still glad you can add this moment to your mental notebook. (Board-kun, I miss you!) You brought it before but I totally agree on your thoughts about Miura's art style. It's impressive but the heart of making these panels where emotions are so sweet and cute. It just gives me a feeling to continue in spite of some gruesomeness and reality of this world. Immersion happening on more soft layers as well. To the point of similarity between Guts and Casca. They really do. I feel that can be a good explanation to a bit of their early interactions. It has a sense of mutual respect and perhaps it comes from the little understanding they get just seeing each other a little. Fight which neither of them desired but ultimately took on when it was made necessary by outside forces and then totally exceeded performing. It makes me think that's what allows both her to push through coercion and help Guts. And for Guts to push through his trauma and accept that help.

I'm going to hold off reading about the river scene again until we get to that point in the manga, but that is a good point to bring up -- I'm sure I'll address it more later! :) And I agree with you, though, Griffith cared about his comrades, but just as stepping stones to help HIM. Unlike Guts, who learned about their ambitions and cared about their passions (bonfire of dreams sequence). Thanks for the comment!

Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it and definitely want to keep getting the deluxe versions if I can! Whiteboard-kun would be helpful after I get past these arcs from the anime, especially moving forward…just gotta find a way to fit him in the space, haha! But yeah, the manga definitely makes Guts questioning Griffith a lot more forward! YES, I agree – it’s so neat how Miura has this incredible detail, and this disturbing imagery that can be so off putting, but then you have little panels of cuteness that draw you back in! I love that we have two characters so similar but so different from the angle of Guts and Casca and from Griffith and Guts and seeing how the relationships between them all develop in this arc! It’s what REALLY sold Berserk to me as something incredible! Thank you for the comment!
