Ha! What fun despite the gore and grossness of Berserk, you were laughing, and I was laughing along with you!! There is a lot of humor in Berserk, we need it!! I often call it a collection of everyday nightmares, and to deal with these, we must have light and laughter. How does Gut's know about all this demon stuff? Good question!!! Roger Rabbit, I absolutely love Roger Rabbit!! The animator for that movie was Richard Williams, the same animator who for 30 yrs worked on The Thief and the Cobbler. Other notable movies that you mentioned, and I can see its influence, are The Thing and from 1985 "Flesh and Blood" by Paul Verhoeven. It stars Rutger Hauer and Jennifer Jason Leigh. That one movie is a known influence on the story of Berserk. "Flesh and Blood" are in bold lettering in the Manga. (when Guts gets possessed by the ghosts) That movie is not for the faint of heart either so fair warning. Ah yes! White board-kun may have to make an appearance at some point but I think you are doing a great job tying all the loose ends together as we go along!! And you were so mad when we finished the Volume!!! Ha! I know how you feel! It does go by quickly because of the fight scenes. RIP Vargas, he turned out not to be a creep after all! So, let's talk about eyes. I've been curious what the significance of losing an eye is in storytelling and myth. You see it a lot in anime and manga where a character will have an eyepatch on either the right or left eye. Guts has lost his right eye. Did a quick google search and there are some notable stories about losing the right eye and its significance. Most notably Oden. His right eye was sacrificed at a well to drink the waters of knowledge and wisdom. The God Horus lost a right eye to Seth in a battle in which Seth lost a testicle! So that's interesting! I think Horus got off better in that one. And there are lots of other examples including what Jesus says to do with the right eye that offends you. Just a bit of a side venture that I found interesting. Now, what I have been wanting to do for years is take a tally of flying eyeballs!! HAHAHAH! It’s kinda like a kill count, except it’s for eyes. 👀 As always, I have enjoyed this readthrough. I am so grateful for Puck!!!!! I want to put him in my pocket!!! Again, thanks, the video is visually a lot better!! The audio is improved too!! Can't wait to finish out the Deluxe edition! @@@@@@@. Spoilers for FEBs below @@@@@@@ So far Volume 1: 3 flying eyeballs. Volume 2: 7 FEB!!!! I'm going to call them FEBs. ;D

At the start of the volume: Just two chapters for this volume? Those are gonna be some long chapters. Romania at the end of the volume: Nooo! That went by too fast! A lot of stories begin with the main character not knowing much about the situation they find themselves in at the start of the story because it a vehicle for the audience to be let in to the story too; so I find it interesting that in this case Guts it's the one that's the most knowledgeable. So instead it's puck that's the audience vehicle while Guts tsundereism is what keeps him from giving away too much information but just the bare minimum for the story to get started. We've seen the anime so that gives context to a lot of the things that at this point the manga is just teasing out, but that's besides the point. From a manga reader perspective it's interesting we're thrown into a world were the MC has already gained knowledge and competence and it's us who are in the dark about what his deal is and are trying to catch up. P.S. The demon body horror in this chapter really brought back memories of High School me siting at Barnes & Noble flipping through H.R. Geiger's artbooks.

I like that Flying Eyeballs is an acronym now, wouldn't want to live in a world where it wasn't. On the other hand, would it be a spoiler to say there's going to be so many flying eyeballs that they're gonna need a counter or is that priced-in considering what kind of story it is? A question for the sages. Vargas was a surprisingly cool minor character, I especially liked that page that mirrored Vargas & Guts' characters.

You have seen the slug count in the anime before as a monster. He had two different appearances. And you did catch Guts avenging Corkus. That is a good idea. Having the white board in the background for in the moment thoughts.

It really did go by insanely fast for being such a small set of chapters! And yes, it was a really smart idea of having Puck be the audience surrogate for gaining information! And yes, to see us face Guts, who has this mysterious past, knowledge we don't have (yet) and all this underlying emotion is really interesting! And Ahhh, there have been people point out Geiger's influence in this -- I only know of a tiny bit, but that's crazy to see it illustrated so well, here! Thanks for the comment!

Thanks for the kind words and comment! i'm not sure if Whiteboard-kun will make an appearance yet but I won't put it past him! ;)
