**EMOTIONAL SUPPORT MERMAN HEADPHONE WARNINGS**  

This anime was actually a little difficult to track down an "official release," but luckily one coastal individual had a copy they were willing to part with -- and it was WORTH IT because wow! This little 30-minute OVA was poignant, sweet, romantic, and adorably therapeutic all at once!   

Plus, you get to see the VA's for Eren Jeager and Cherry from SK8 together...which is...a JOY! I hope you all love this as much as I did!

Loved this reaction and discussion! Such a moving story – really enjoyed it artistically (the patterns work so well) and its take on grief. Beyond that though, this actually represented childhood emotional neglect really well – Shima being the quiet, responsible, smart boy who is neglected because his parents think a ‘no-trouble’ child means Shima has it all figured out and doesn’t need any actual emotional support or care. I loved his grandpa so much. This whole element was very well presented, I think. Side note: in my quest to find this, I found a cover that looked similar and didn’t look carefully enough – read the work, thinking it was the source work for this, before the reaction came out. So I have now discovered I read some entire other orange-haired merman/dark-haired protagonist thing (and no, not Merman in My Tub either). Coincidentally, it also ticks the Old Man Yaoi box. Single volume completed work: Wadatsumi no Yometori, I would recommend it. Also, MAL has an interest stack called Gay Fish and there are 13 entries on it … and it’s not even complete because this work isn’t on it. “Pescatarian relationships” are all the rage it seems! 😂 Soubi Yamamoto did a series of these in the early 2010s (the ones you mentioned, different one-shots, Kono Danshi …/This Boy …). This one wasn’t their first and was released when they were 22! I will definitely try to find the others and check them out. Looking forward to catching up with the next entry! 💙

“Catching up” with the next reaction? I see what you did there! 😛 But yes, thank you for the kind words and comment! I was really taken by surprise with this OVA - I wasn’t expecting a “lot” and it gave me way more than I bargained for! The way they presented Shima’s upbringing was very well done; it definitely - like Mignon - made you want more of him and the merman’s relationship delved into! The discussion of grief and how it was handled was really effective as well! The fact that there is an entire SUBGENRE of orange-haired merman/dark-haired protagonist is equally hilarious and fascinating! I will DEFINITELY put that one-shot down for next year, maybe! 😛 Or at least a reaction in the future even if it doesn’t make JanuYaoi. PESCATARIAN RELATIONSHIPS. Maybe JanuYaoi should have a theme next year! Kidding, but that is HILARIOUS – it would be fun to work on a video about that at some point *jots down notes* I’m very fascinated; if they have the quality of this OVA, they’d definitely be worth checking out!
