**MIDWAY POINT HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

The halfway point of season 1 is in this episode set and OOF. Man, does it HURT. Shogo Makishima luring Akane into similar situations as Kogami was put through...and revealing that he's not someone that can be easily dealt with by an Enforcer or Inspector, it seems!

Plus, we FINALLY get backstory on Kunizuka and how she became an Enforcer! The hardest cut between episodes so far, but honestly, after the horror of the first half of this "episode"...it was NEEDED!

Loved the discussion and reaction! Another example of an episode where loads of the characters got to shine, even with tiny moments (raver Masaoka?! Excuse me). Kogami keeps getting all the best action frames - I'm also really enjoying your analysis of him as inspector vs enforcer and where Sasayama's influence came in. The series does really well with show-don't-tell, in my opinion. And even though the main triad is amazing, this ep is all about Kunizuka for me. Love her complexity - she can come across aloof or withdrawn, but I think she is primarily introspective and unbothered. She does not fear speaking her mind and takes her time to make careful decisions - her silence is considered. Her moments with Shion (OTP, of course) and also Kagari are my favourite - she's expressive with them, but it's clearly something that's behind walls. After such an intense first half/ep - having an extended flashback which gave us so many character moments centred around someone like Kunizuka specifically was a cool choice. Looking forward to next week! PS: "Beowulf" < was uttered with derision 16 times 😂

Great reaction and discussion! For me, Makishima gives off British villain energy in American movies 😂 But I love that it was him bringing up Beowulf that was the final line of pretentiousness from him for you! 🤣 Kagari’s method of trying to disable the jammer is more what I’d expect from someone from an older generation. I can remember having to thump our TV in a specific place for it to sometimes work 😅 Romania: Kougami! You're too hot to die!! Top 10 quote from Romania Black 🤣 Potentially for the blood being given to Kougami it may actually be AB as, I believe, it's a universal type that can be given to anyone in an emergency situation in order to help the patient be more stable before being moved to hospital where they can receive further blood transfusions of their own blood type if required. I do have to say I love them showing Akane with her legs trembling when she realises there's nothing she can do to stop Makishima and save Funahara. She's a pretty strong and badass female character, but they let her have these realistic emotional moments too. They give her moments to be emotional and break-down without it making her character look weak. Her reaction is realistic and understandable to the viewer, and I love that Kougami gives her support but isn't written as a white knight to come in and save the crying damsel. The story definitely takes a few unexpected twists and turns, and it has already shown it's not afraid to be dark or gritty. Yet it still is honestly shocking the first time you watch it for Makishima to just kill Funahara anyways. But I feel like that moment is a bit of a mirroring of the moment with Senguuji, and how *he* also doesn't take the chance to just go but rather continues to hunt his prey. For Senguuji that choice is to his detriment. For Makishima, he manages to make his escape as well as kill Funahara and deal such a blow to Akane. Funahara's death isn't the most gory death we've seen so far, but I love the choice of silence after Akane's scream and all you can hear is the echoing noise of Funahara's blood dripping on to the metal. The sound and glimpse you get of her body is vivid enough to make it more brutal. Sasayama definitely gives off assh*le vibes, which definitely shows that Kougami doesn't actually have a type 😂 But I'm with you in that for me Kougami and Ginoza give off that sibling vibe rather than having a romantic vibe to them. Gotta love the representation shown in Psycho-Pass, and how it's treated in such a normal and blasé manner. Maybe Sasayama didn't try to flirt with Kunizuka because he knew she's a lesbian so there'd be no point. It does give him a very small point in my book for not being like some guys in having the mentality of "she just hasn't met *me* yet" 🙄 I never actually considered Kunizuka's bandmate as a toxic partner. I saw that moment more as showing the divide in society thanks to the Sibyl System; the idea of "we don't associate ourselves with *them* so as we don't get linked as being like them". Rina was in a band that wasn't authorised by the Sibyl System, whilst Kunizuka was a member of such a band and was intrigued by the girl and the music. Her bandmate I always thought was simply trying to look out for Kunizuka's Hue, but she also had a very dismissive attitude for unauthorised bands. Kinda made me think of how when growing up the majority of my society treated people who liked heavy metal music as being 'Other' or 'Weird' and they were considered outsiders/outliers of society. And at the same time certain majority groups in society tried to place the blame for some societal issues on things like heavy metal music. Only new seiyuu for this week is Rina's; Watanabe Akeno. She's also voiced Kayama Nemuri and young Midoriya from Boku no Hero; young Suzaku and Villetta from Code Geass; Halle from Death Note; Gou and young Rin from Free!; and Hitch from Shingeki no Kyojin.

We were ROBBED by not seeing more of raver Masaoka! And I really love how good they make Kogami look -- thank you for the kind words -- I am really fascinated by Inspector Kogami, how Sasayama influenced him, and where it's led Kogami to be an Enforcer now -- comparing his journey alongside Akane's will be interesting! Kunizuka's arc was soooo good here! And yes, her strength showcased through this flashback and why she would make a good Enforcer is really neat to see -- I think it was a nice choice as well, even if we're left in suspense for next week! Also, HA! I mean...clearly Beowulf is near and dear to my heart. -_- Thank you so much for the comment and helping to moderate the comments! :D

Makishima is SO a British Villain from American Movies! He just needs a mustache at this point! ;) Let’s not speak more of Beowulf! 😛 Kogami IS too hot to die – we stan for the good-looking characters living, please. Oooh, that’s a good point about the AB blood! Thanks for noting that! I think anyone with the circumstance in front of them and in Akane’s state of mind would buckle, so it was great to see it play out, though anxiety-driven as all get out! And YES, Kogami’s support - especially out at the stretcher in the aftermath - almost felt like a mutual understanding of how much a moment like that sucks rather than him trying to “save” her. Funahara’s death definitely isn’t the goriest, but to me, it’s the most resonating so far. It’s such a blow to Akane, indeed. The sound design and way they used the visuals too in that moment to “show and tell” was really powerful! Sasayama is definitely a jerk – so Kogami may not have a type, indeed, haha! I like that reasoning too as to why Sasayama may have not bothered to flirt with Kunizuka. Agreed on that! That’s a fair point too about the bandmate and it being more of a societal division than a romantic toxic moment – fair point! 🙂 Oohhh, and nice note about Rina’s VA! I am JUST now realizing Young Rin and his sister Gou had the same VA – that is GENIUS! Thank you for that and the kind words and comment! 😀
