**Penultimate HeadPhone Warnings**

Ooohhh, I have been SO excited to see the manga for the anime installment of the first part with the finale, and honestly? I think the anime did a great job of adapting the material, but there were some surprises and amazing imagery that this volume had in it!

Next week is the last volume before the final Recap, though!  It feels so weird to say that!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

Hard to believe that we're already at the penultimate volume... The bold text in the manga is an addition in the translation, but as far as I can tell they often do highlight nuances in the Japanese wording that would otherwise get lost. (My Japanese is nowhere near good enough to do a full analysis of this. Fun thing I noticed while looking at the raws: The "Female Titan" bit that Annie says is put in quotes (bolded in the translation, as you pointed out), and there's something really cool here. You may know that shounen and shoujo manga put little reading helpers called 'furigana' next to the Chinese-style characters, so that even people who struggle with some kanji can read them. Authors sometimes put different readings there that don't actually match up with the way the characters are actually read. In that part, Annie says "megata no kyoujin", the 'Female Titan', but the reading helpers actually say "bakemono", or 'monster'. I really don't envy the translators that somehow have to get all this into English text... Though I think Ko Ransom did a great job here. The anime script just took the "monster" reading and completely dropped the "Female Titan", that's why you don't see that in the translations there. Levi's line to creepy Hange is apparently the same in the manga and anime scripts. I get what the translator was going for with "hard-on for titans", but Levi was saying "kataomoi" which means 'unrequited love'. It's not an unreasonable way to deviate from the script; it keeps the meaning intact at least and with jokes there's always the question of how much to change to make it funny in another language. If you ever decide to read the *AoT Junior High* manga, which I honestly wouldn't recommend personally, the translator/editor there rewrote most of the script and made up completely new gags, which is pretty much the only thing interesting about it. Eren being all "Why aren't people cheering for me whan I say I want to kill all the titans? People were always cheeing for that guy with the little mustache..." and Mikasa replying "Eren, I told you to stop watching the History Channel." is kind of hilarious with where the story ended up going many years later... I fully agree with Melisa on Armin's line in the special. It's so obviously nonsensical that it feels a bit jarring to compare genocide on an unprecedented scale with showing a kid a cool book. Isayama lets the characters speak, and that's sometimes frustrating or controversial. A part of the fandom raised a major major fuss about the line that "mir loved King Fritz", and Isayama youldhave explained it better (though it clearly didn't come out of nowehere as many claim, you figured it out way beforehand...) but it was Eren speaking, not Isayama. Andwhile Eren is someone who has lots of strong feelings, he's someone who fundamentally doesn't *understand* feelings. And Armin is a liar.

I don't envy translators it, must be hard trying to find the best combination of cold accurate translation of the words, the intent of the author and what would be the closest in meaning in the language translated to. On top of that we have the cultural differences that further changes translations and what works when changed over, it sure is an artform.

Agreed, "sorry" feels a bit inadequate for what Eren is doing, sorry is for accidently stepping on someone's foot... not purposely "stepping" on the whole world. I know i complained that not enough characters died in these last parts, but if i could have one character back from all of AoT it would probably be Hange, she had that Armin light in her eyes. On the other hand she would be living in a world without titans and perhaps that would be worse than death for them. 😂 Farmhand-kun got to be more progressive here and actually be in the delivery room, in the anime he had to wait outside like some old timey schmuck. I'm not going to be to hard on him, as i don't know if it was his choice or if he wasn't allowed inside. 😉 Maybe small clarification, Fort Slava and Fort Salta are different places.

"Purposefully stepping on the whole world," MY BAD. Hahaha!! I do miss Hange an awful lot after they're gone! But that is a fair point; a world without titans for Hange? It seems so empty and wrong. XD I just want...to see...his face. Farmhand-kun...Isayama, why you gotta do me so dirty!? Hahaha, but yeah, that is a nice moment that he actually gets to be with Historia! And THANK YOU -- I constantly think Fort Slava and Salta are the same place, when if I just looked without squinting, I could see they're not the same, hahaha! XD Thank you for that and the comment! I appreciate it!
