**CRIMINALLY MINDED HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

I'll be watching the "Extended Editions" for this first season and I'm already IN on this WILD series! The premise is Blade Runner meets Bungo Stray Dogs and I'm ALL IN for that! Plus, the dynamics of our main girl Akane and the "dogs" she is surrounded by is so good so far!

LOTS of questions, lots of mystery, but I'm on board with the ambiance, the thematic elements, and the story thus far! Let's do this!

Anime Annie

Long comment incoming 😅 (sorry Floor or BeHappy, and Romania) The setting of this anime is really intriguing. It kinda reminds me of a grittier version of RoboCop for part of the premise. They really fire a lot of information and terms at you this first episode but I feel like it helps you be more immersive in the story, and then you slowly can piece together what those terms mean in relation to the anime. Gotta say I love them choosing to translate "gosousha" to 'paddy wagon' as that's a very commonly used phrase for police vans (typically the more armoured vehicles) here in Northern Ireland. The term can also be translated to police van or prisoner transport vehicle [the latter of which is fitting but could've potentially negated the need to reveal their status as criminals]. I love how they portray the difference between the experienced police officer, Ginoza, and the newbie, Akane. Ginoza's use of language and treatment of the Enforcers is on the more negative side, whereas Akane treats them all as being her senpai because she's the newest in the group such as how low she bows to greet them, and her deferring to Masaoka (as the oldest in her group) on what they should be doing. As someone who comes from a country that is continually investigating potential "historic" crimes of soldiers and police officers killing civilians during the Troubles in the 60s to the late 90s, the idea of the Denominator is honestly fascinating to me, especially how it disables itself when it concludes that there isn't a threat. But at the same time the cynic against certain technology makes me question trusting a machine's judgement over a person's own intuition at times. I definitely think such a gun would be helpful in preventing wrongful shootings/personal feelings causing the police officer to target specific individuals, but there are downsides to such a gun too as we see with the female victim ending up with a Hue of over 100 because of the torture and assault inflicted on her, and from her fear of her Hue being at such a level. But it definitely begs the question on what factors does the Sibyl System use to differentiate if a person is a target or not, and how it differentiates and decides if a person can be given the change to overcome this moment through therapy or if they 'need' to be eliminated. Considering this aired back in 2012 Masaoka saying that the youth of today are unable to handle stress is a very relevant idea even now, especially after COVID and how lockdowns, etc. affected a lot of young people's mental health. Your shock at what the Dominator's power was in Elimination mode was exactly like mine when I first watched this show. They didn't shy away from showing us parts of the torture and assault of the female victim but I still didn't expect them to go so graphic for the criminal's death. Mainly it was unexpected because this was the first seinen I ever watched. I like Akane but she showed she's a rookie with how she handled the situation with the victim. If Masaoka had been able to shoot her with the paralyser there's a chance therapy would have given her the help she needed. But by preventing him from shooting her it led to the victim's Hue going even higher and created the risk of her becoming a murderer, resulting in the Dominator changing from paralysing mode to eliminator mode. That was an escalation of the situation that didn't need to happen, especially as they have to shoot the victim anyway once the Dominator goes back to paralysing mode. Personally I don't feel she made the right choice as the victim could have received that treatment if Masaoka had shot her. Her actions instead put the lives of her entire team and potentially the homeless people remaining within the building. I do agree with her de-escalating the situation after the Dominator changed to lethal mode, but if she'd led Masaoka shoot the victim in the first place then said de-escalation wouldn't have been needed. I need a jellyfish like Akane's to wake me up in the mornings and remind me of what my schedule is, but agreed give me a different voice 😂 Also her strutting about her apartment naked adds an interesting aspect to her personality. Oh my god, Midorima did make an appearance!!! Love it 😂 Imagine that that is a futuristic version of Oha Asa. Considering both Shion and Kunizuka were fixing their clothing there is the high possibility that they were doing a little something-something before Akane appeared. I do feel for Akane that her second day on the job she has to take lead 🥺 Poor girl is fresh out of training and being thrown in at the deep end. Honestly it's a great way to not raise panic in such a vast area with them being in little police mascot holosuits. I could see the shipper hearts in your eyes Romania when Kogami started smiling at Akane 🥰 We need some shipping to help with the darker aspects shown in this episode. I love though how upfront Kogami is when he corrects Akane's assumption that he doesn't think he'd choose the same as her. He's neither apologetic nor expects Akane to be apologetic about their different choices. Akane put the victim first, Kogami put his own life first. And there's no judgement between the two for the differing opinions. The Eleventh Doctor would be so disappointed in you Romania! "Bow ties are cool!" 🤣 That opening talk about Kogami and Makishima definitely makes it hard not to ship them together. I'm a sucker for destined pairs 😆 But it is at war with what the ship between Kogami and Akane could be. Lucky for us that we're multi-shippers, right? 😂 Yes! Ginoza's design is definitely older Kyoya from Ouran High School Host Club. Kagari is my favourite of the kind of side characters. His being noticed by the system at age 5 though did remind me of some units regarding Child Psychology and Child Protection I had to study for working in Nursery Schools (3-4 years old, some have creches so have a wider age range of babies and children up to 4 years old) or Primary Schools (4-11 years old). We had to learn about some case studies that changed laws in our country regarding Child Protection and some of it wasn't just because of adult on child violence, but also child on child violence or even in rare cases child on adult violence. At the time there were two schools of thought for some of these child offenders. One is that they cannot be rehabilitated, hence why a good number of them go on to commit more crimes when released from whatever detention centre or children's prison they've been in. The other is that any crimes the young offenders commit in the future are due to a lack of proper rehabilitation and therapy. This school of thought believes that the current rehabilitation and therapy provided for such young offenders (which in some places is barely anything) is inadequate to then expect a different outcome from the child later on. But neither of these theories take in to account those children who experience the same background, commit the same crime, and get the same treatment afterwards don't go on to commit further crimes upon their release back into society. It's an interesting concept that the anime brings up for their audience to question, but also makes it worrisome that such a sanction was put into place on a child who got flagged in a Psycho-Pass test. It does make you question both why therapy/rehabilitation wasn't effective and resulted in a child being isolated from society like this, but also why Akane doesn't even blink at the idea of it. My assumption for Akane's second case is similar to yours. Potentially either an ex-boyfriend who isn't happy that his ex is moving on. Or a friend who wanted/expected more from their relationship than friendship and got pissed off that they were friend-zoned. Or potentially if one of the couple was in any kind of media industry he got angry over them being in a relationship (you know how some fans of actors or singers etc. can be extra fanatic and can't stand the idea of them not being single). When Floor said your comment had over 18 paragraphs, I was…not surprised! ;) Ooh, I can see the RoboCop comparisons as well! I don’t mind the exposition dump as it seems NEEDED for a story that relies on the world-building so much; at least they give you enough pieces right off the bat! I feel now that you mention it, Paddy Wagon feels familiar and your explanation connected the dots! I love the dynamic between Ginoza, Akane, and the Enforcers already! The Sybil System is something I’m most curious about and I’m excited to see the history of it as we go through the story. And YES, I was thinking about Covid and the same thing about mental health as that information was being displayed! OH. This is a SEINEN. WELL. That explains a lot, hahahaha! Interesting! Now, I’m intrigued! Also, I’m fully on the headcanon this is a futuristic Oha Asa. Fully believing the headcanon that Shion and Kunizuka were messing around before Akane appeared. Being a multishipper has never felt so good, though! But yes, The 11th Doctor would be disappointed in me! ;) I definitely feel for Kagari, though. I’m curious to learn more about the rehabilitation in this series as we dive deeper into it. Oohhhh thank you for the VA information!! And thank you for the kind words and awesome comment! :) :) Glad we were on similar wavelengths with the first episode(s)! 😀
