 **PHOENIX-LADEN HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

Isagi is bound and determined to win against Team Y, now that he has Niko cornered, but it's not going to be easy! Still, Isagi becomes REBORN on the field, and the visuals, action, and heart-to-hearts of this episode -- along with some dysfunctional domesticity -- made it probably one of my favorites so far! Let's GO, Blue Lock!

I saw the daiya ad when it was posted in the daiya channel, but I was not expecting that segue pffft. Amazing Been loving the AOT comparisons. I just wanted to clarify that there isn’t a typical “mangaka” for the Blue Lock manga. It’s a collaboration between the manga author Kaneshiro Muneyuki (who wrote horror manga) and manga illustrator Nomura Yusuke (a former assistant to Isayama). For each ch, Kaneshiro writes the story, draws rough sketches, and gives them to Nomura to draw the final product. So, the story and themes of Blue Lock aren't necessarily influenced by AOT, but there’s probably at least a little influence in the art and imagery. Also, Nomura was the illustrator for Dolly Kill Kill (2014-2017) which is a survival horror manga hahaha.. Yeah, it’s so neat that Isagi, Bachira, and Naruhaya are voiced by rookie VAs. Also, Murayama Jun is in charge of the music in Blue Lock. He's arranged some EDs in the past (e.g., he did the arrangement for Tsurune ED1), but this is the first time he’s composed and produced a full soundtrack! And I love the BLLK OST and am looking forward to you hearing my fav tracks. And I may as well talk about the animation studio 8bit which produced anime like That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and Stars Align. Now talking about the actual episode.. Poor Niko 😭 He seemed so confident about winning the game, and now he’s out here on his knees crying, finally showing his beautiful eyes. It really is scary how Isagi didn’t celebrate with his teammates and instead walked over towards the scatter of “corpses.” He didn’t shake their hand or talk to them. When Isagi towered over Niko and saw his expression and thought, “It feels so good,” I was like, oh no he’s sadistic. It reminded me of Tendo from Haikyuu and how he got enjoyment out of looking down on his opponents’ faces of despair after kill blocking their spike. It’s pretty terrifying, but Tendo and Isagi are such sweet, friendly cinnamon buns outside the matches (like with Chigiri this ep). When Isagi was later on in the episode reflecting and questioning this feeling of satisfaction, I liked how you said, “There’s nothing wrong with being an egoist. No, you’re not a jerk.” Yeah, it’s a very natural feeling, and Isagi wasn’t gloating nor insulting them (some people may argue otherwise but whatever). This moment is similar to how in ep 2 after eliminating Kira, Isagi thought, “Why am I so pumped up?” Isagi still doesn’t know what to think about these feelings and is still lacking confidence. Weirdly enough, I think how Isagi acted right after scoring the goal shows his humanity and empathy in a way. He didn’t thoughtlessly celebrate with his teammates, and he didn’t avert his eyes from the despair and devastation he caused. As he was walking among his defeated opponents, he thought, “I crushed… the dreams of these eleven people. My goal did this. So this is what it means to win.” He didn’t view them as ants or just opponents but rather as people who are in the same position and have the same dream as him. He’s taking in or processing the consequences and dark reality of winning and losing. In ep 1, he only crushed the dream of one person—Kira, but now he just crushed a whole team. Ego saying, “I refuse to do anything that can be done by others.” SUCH a Ranpo thing to say (same VA). Ego talking while eating also reminded me of Ranpo. Ranpo's got a huge ego as well. One of the few things I knew about BLLK before watching the first ep was that Ego was voiced by Kamiya Hiroshi. And my bias for Levi and Ranpo, and thus their VA, helped me immediately really like Ego since ep 1 and become an Ego apologist lol. Is what Ego’s doing possibly unethical? Mmm MAYBE, but anyways. I can defend his choice of making them wear bodysuits because they’re probably compression gear. The design on the bodysuit though? Mm well.. “But now, everyone’s chasing after me! I’m number one.” Everyone in Team Z’s joining the harem except Chigiri. Chigiri’s interesting and so beautiful, especially love his hair. Since I first saw him, his design reminds me of Angel Devil from CSM. This part of the episode reminded of a Haikyuu episode (very hopeful and motivating), especially the ep in s2 where the Karasuno members acknowledged Hinata as their rival.

Bwahaaaha, I’m so happy the segue was successful! Huzzah! 😀 Oohhhh, that is good to know about Blue Lock, but it will make the opening for Episode 6 a little weird, ahahah, but still will work! 🙂Thank you for that information, though! Ahhh, that does make me sad with Studio 8Bit because then I think of Stars Align, and *sigh*... But yes, Nikooooo, he was so confident and Isagi took the moment after the win to literally confront the representation of his former self and have a funeral for it, haha!! And yesss, the TENDO COMPARISON! Definitely can see that! I do agree that Isagi’s not a jerk about it, so it’s not wrong for him to find personal accomplishment a good thing. As he becomes more confident, THEN it will be interesting to see how he handles that sense of victory! And yes, he acknowledged the opponents he put down by winning – and viewed them similar to his own situation – it gives more appreciation for the victory; I agree with your thoughts on it, too! Ego and Ranpo relating is soooo true! Ego is so fascinating and one of those people that’s so bizarre, he just gets away with things…I do love Chigiri, though! They’re soooo beautifully designed! And I can see the comparison to Angel! Yessss! I can see the Haikyuu comparison at the end, too! :) Nice! I’m so excited for this week to come, but thank you for the kind words and comment!
