**HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

This volume is STACKED with amazing chapters, from "Midnight Sun" to "The Basement" to "That Day," there's just so much to look forward to and Isayama does NOT let down when it comes to the artwork throughout!

This volume set was a tour de force and while I didn't cry like the anime, I would be lying if it didn't kick me in the heart and stomp all over it. Let's discuss!

Thank you for watching with me and for all the support!

In the anime it seems almost like Eren can't will himself to open the book until Mikasa also puts her hand on it, like it was something they needed to do together. Now as someone who isn't for that particular ship i see it more as siblings learning more about their family and history, taking that step into the unknown as one. One could argue all sorts of ways why Levi made the choice he made (and i'm sure it was an amalgamation of all kinds of considerations and emotions) but to me it always seemed that when Erwin told him he didn't really know what to do, after they took back Wall Maria and found the basement, he sealed his own fate. I think Levi figured out it made more narrative sense for Armin to live on. 😜 Is it just me or did they give Armin more abs in the anime? Well Eren did have a, perhaps not similar, but a moment when his anger was awakened. When Armin shows him the book about the outside world it seems Eren hadn't really thought about it before and was somewhat content. When shown that book he learns that there is something being kept from him, so sadly, perhaps Eren doesn't really want freedom as much as he doesn't want to be denied it. He never wanted a cookie but when he was told he couldn't have one, well things happend... so in conclusion, the world ending is all Armins fault and a smart boy like him should really have known better then to give a murder child like Eren hopes and dreams.

There's a completely untranslatable and stupid gag in this volume, hidden in a sound effect. I'll let Isayama himself explain it, from an interview: Q: I understand that your stance is “If you feel like laughing here, that’s fine!”, but it’s a surprise that if you think of a pun, then you end up including it. A: For example, when I was drawing Bertolt being eaten by Armin, I drew the onomatopoeia “paki”, and I thought “Eh? If I write “kyao” too, it will become “pakkyao”. It’s in my nature, it’s a thing I can’t help but do once I think a pun up (laughs). (T/N: he’s referring to Pacquiao, a professional boxer) (translation source: https://yaboylevi.tumblr.com/post/185863098141/shingeki-no-kyojin-story-guide-isayama-senseis) So the sound of Bertolt's bones being crushed by titan-Armin's teeth is Manny Pacquiao's family name, just because Isayama could.

Oh my gosh, that is hilarious!! Of COURSE Isayama would have the darkest of humor for a moment like that! That's amazing; Thank you for pointing that out and for the comment! :)

It definitely does make you wonder if there was a part of Eren that was telling himself that once the book was open, nothing would ever be the same, but he wanted to - and it took Mikasa to "complete" that dream -- sort of like the opposite of Levi and Erwin, where Erwin was asking Levi if he should go for the dream or not, and Levi chose the opposite of Mikasa...and they're both Ackerman's so....it's interesting. I wholeheartedly agree; you can SENSE in the pages and the anime that once Levi realized Erwin didn't have a contingency plan for after the basement, it sealed his decision to save Armin. It just took a while to get there...and agreed, Armin gets more abs in the anime! How's that for alliteration? ;) HAHAHA, we should just avoid giving the kids any hopes and dreams, just in case they've always been a secret murder child and it awakens something. Good to know. Isayama's Parenting 101. :P Thank you for the comment! :D
