**COURAGEOUS HEADPHONE WARNINGS**

This episode may have been the aftermath of a battle and setting up for next week, but there is PLENTY to talk about with Snake, Olmar, Thorfinn, Einar, and of course CANUTE!

Will Canute get to reunite with Thorfinn? Probably -- but what will he think of him? What will they talk about?! Will Canute be able to see Thorfinn's ultimate glow up, or will he be too battered and bruised for his true beauty to shine? :P Lots to talk about, y'all!

I'm not usually a big fan up set up episodes, even though they're often necessary, but I think this one was so well done that it might be one of my favorite episodes of this season. Olmar joins the congregation of the church of Thorfinn and maybe signs up to become a true warrior, with Snake in tow. Thorfinn practices what he preaches and Canute still wanders in the wilderness. All the themes, plus SO MANY possibilities for how this season may play out. Not to mention the shipping potential. I really enjoyed this reaction. Thanks!

One thing I'm coming to love is how Olmar, Thorfinn and Canute are all haunted by death, yet their motivations to change--while similar in certain ways--are all fueled by different emotions. Canute sees death as unavoidable/a necessity if he wants to create the paradise for warriors he's been hoping to achieve. I wouldn't say he's indifferent to it, per se, but he's separated himself from it enough that if it happens, it happens. Yet if it's possible, he'd avoid it if it means getting closer to his goal. Thorfinn, too, in his own way, knows that the way Viking culture is glorifies death through violence so much that its become a kind of unavoidable part of Viking life. It was a life he'd been apart of for far too long, and the death he surrounded himself with then has left a gaping hole of regret. To better himself, he want to bring the death he's caused with him to let the dead be at rest. The regret of his part is fueling him to do better by those that haunt him. And finally Olmar, as we see in this episode, almost seems to mirror Thorfinn in that the person he killed embodies the regret he feels for bringing chaos and violence down on those who don't deserve it. Not only that but that regret runs alongside the underlying fear of being hurt himself, as unlike Thorfinn, he's not a fighter. He knows nothing about being a warrior or trying to survive on the battlefield. As Fox told him back in episode 3, the human body is fragile. Having death as his "product", as Fox called it, is not a life he's willing to live, no matter how much it appeals to everyone else. His ideals to be like his monster of a brother and to uphold the false legacy of his father have become a harsh lesson to the brutality of killing. Death and fear have manifested in the spirit of the man he killed, and now he must live with the consequences of his actions.

definetly the most hype moment was canute shitting himself realizing a ghost of the past is there. You catch it immediately while other reactors did struggle. It's evident that Canute is both terrified and conflicted by the appearance of Thorfinn,. This encounter puts Canute on edge.

Hahaha, Olmar and Snake joining the congregation of Thorfinn and the True Warriors? I'm here for it 100%! I love that alliteration about Thorfinn and Canute and the Practice and Wilderness -- there's so much possibility with shipping and with the plot that I cannot WAIT for the last three episodes of the season! Thank you for the kind words and comment!

The MOMENT, right?! Canute realizing Thorfinn -- THE Thorfinn -- is there on the island, but of course, he doesn't want to give him the time of day because he believes that Thorfinn is still the feral boy he knew as a teenager! Ahhhhhh, I love it so! *heart eyes* Thank you for the kind words and comment! Can't wait for next week!

Yessss, you basically summed up my discussion for this episode! ^^ What I love is that Thorfinn does know that the Viking culture glorifies death, but I don't think he feel it's unavoidable like Canute does -- he's actively trying and has tried throughout this second season to change people's mindsets (be it Snake, Gardar, or Einar) and keep them from killing -- he may not realize it fully himself yet, but he's actively working to try and change the system by being an example of going against the grain. And Olmar is following suit, showing that he believes there is courage in not being violent, courage in taking the bullying of others and "being the better person" and not acting out of anger or fear upon it but being more rational. I like your note that Olmar's not a warrior himself, so he comes at the pacifism that Thorfinn is promoting from a more "civilian" perspective -- and now we have both of these pacifist forces headed to talk to the one OTHER character in the show with "similar" views and a position of power. The question is: how will the talk go? I am SO excited to find out! ^^ Thank you for the comment!!
