Perhaps the plothole isn't so much Marcel panicking and ending up dead as much as it not happening to more titans throughout the series (they are after all, as Reiner said, just kids). If one really wanted to, maybe change it so that Ymir grabbed him in a way so he had no arms/hands free. If you usually bite a hand, switching to biting your tongue might be quite hard in a panicked state. Aww Ymir trying to be selfish and Eren trying to be selfless, when they both end up completely opposite of that. In the Anime i always wondered how one of Mikasas blades ended up poking straight through Reiners arm but no, she just sliced/split his hand and arm down to that point, that's gnarly.

I like that the manga is sparing no expense with the gore; it does make the anime seem more censored in that regard! That's a fair point about Marcel -- I'm going to chalk it up to surprise and panic in the moment; the point about the tongue is a good point, though! And HA! The way Ymir and Eren try to be one thing and end up quite the opposite - I forgot how interesting this dynamic is in the series -- I wish we had more with Eren and Ymir! :) Thank you for the kind words and comment!
